• Up to 828 million people potentially suffered from hunger in 2021


• Food insecurity and the number of people going hungry has been increasing post 2014
• 150 million more people facing hunger in 2021 than in 2019 due to COVID-19
• Approximately 1 in 10 people worldwide are suffering from hunger
• Almost 1 in 3 (2.3 billion people) were moderately or severely food insecure in 2021
• Increase of almost 350 million people since the beginning of the pandemic
• Between 720 million and 811 million persons worldwide suffered from hunger in 2020
• Approximately an increase of 161 million from 2019
• >30% of the world’s population (2.4 billion) suffered from moderate or severe food insecurity
• 22% of children under 5 years old (149.2 million) were suffering from stunting (low height for their age) in 2020, down from 24.4
per cent in 2015.
• 6.7% of children under 5 years old (45.4 million) were affected by (low weight for height) in 2020
• 47% of countries are burdened by high food prices in 2020, an increase from 16% in 2019
