2023 BOARD PRIORITIZATION

BY TONY REID
Board President

The 2022 annual community meeting was held on November 10,

2022. The theme of the meeting was Home on the Range—a step
back in time to the history of Las Sendas.

The annual meeting started with a review of the Board's 2022

strategic initiatives. As many are aware, a couple of years ago the
Board created a strategic plan that guides what the Association
and the Board does to manage the affairs of the Community. A
key element of our strategic plan is the development of strategic
priorities each year.

The 2022 priorities were challenging and very impactful for our
Community. They are listed below:

• Enclave Vehicle Gate Enhancements

• CC&R Amendment Vote
• Trailhead Remodel/Repurpose
• Emergency Preparedness Plan
• Landscape Enhancement/Main Entry Monuments
• Landscape Irrigation System Replacement
• Landscape Enhancement/Enclave Entrances

I am happy to report that we successfully completed all of these

initiatives during calendar year 2022. Some of these initiatives
were challenging and took a tremendous amount of time and
effort by the Board, staff, committees/working groups and our
residents. The most notable accomplishment of the year was the
CC&R Amendment Vote. We were able to get over 75% of our
residents to vote yes and approve a change in our CC&R’s that
prohibits short term rentals in our community. The entire process
was managed by our Short-Term Rental Working Group and lots of
hard work by the enclave ambassadors and others who went door
to door to encourage people to vote. This was a perfect example
of the “Sense of Community” demonstrated by residents.

Completion of the other 2021 initiatives were also impactful to

priorities will be challenging to complete, but we know that with With gratitude, I look forward to working with many of you to make

generate a pretty lengthy waitlist. Who doesn’t love a few drinks

sure to keep an eye on our event calendar and read our weekly

Our second annual Viva Las Sendas will be returning to the Trailhead

• The material should be flexible so your dog can walk naturally

and without discomfort or pain.
• Textured soles are important for traction or grip on the trails.
• Velcro straps allow sizing and adjustment for comfort and
support.
• Check the tag for sizing guidelines. Try the boots on your dog
and feel how their paws expand and retract inside as they stand
and walk. This will help determine which size to purchase.
• If necessary for warmth or comfort, use paw socks especially

Hydration
When preparing your own water and glycogen replacement,
remember your dog needs to replenish their body’s water loss too.
Even if the weather is cool, always bring enough water for your

during your hike. While you may think it is easy to offer your dog a

ASU BRINGS SUSTAINABLE GARDENING TO LAS SENDAS ELEMENTARY

BY LINDSEY CLAYTON
PTO President

Who doesn’t love a garden? Turning the soil and planting seeds
or plants, then watering and witnessing their growth over time
is an enriching experience. Of course, there are also plenty of
lessons to be learned when creating and tending a garden. The
Las Sendas Elementary STEM institute and PTO are partnering with
ASU to create a rain garden and outdoor classroom for the school.
With support from ASU’s Program Manager for the National
Sustainability Teachers' Academies, students in 4th-6th grade
STEM classrooms will explore the school watershed and design a
sustainable garden and outdoor classroom.

This space will create a local microclimate that will mitigate heat,
prevent erosion, remove standing water, and create habitat for
wildlife such as butterflies and birds. Once completed, Las Sendas
will enjoy a living laboratory for students to explore for years to
come.
