Mr Compton: Hi, Mrs Furness.. You look upset... what happened?

Mrs Furness: Well, You're right... I have never had such an awful day. I
had a business meeting in London, but I missed it...
Mr Compton: Did you? I'm very sorry...
Mrs Fumess: Yeah... I got up very late this morning. The alarm clock didn't go off, so I didn't have
any breakfast
Mr Compton: I see...
Mrs Furness: Then I tried to start the ear in the garage, but it didn't work...
Mr Compton: Oh dear!
Mrs Furness: Yes... so I walked to the bus stop to get a bus to the
railway station, but after half an hour I realized there was a bus strike...
Mr Compton: No... You don't say!
Mrs Furness: Then I tried to call a taxi on my mobile phone... But just after saying 'Hello', the
battery went flat. The only thing I could do was to look for a phone box. After finding it. I
managed to call the taxi rank. Well, all the taxi drivers seemed to be very busy... It took about 30
minutes before a car finally arrived!
Mr Compton: Oh. great- What time did you get to the station, then?
Mrs Furness: There was a bad accident on the way to the station so the
taxi was stuck in traffic for an hour and a half.
Mr Compton: Bad luck! What did you do then?
Mrs Furness: Well., when I finally arrived at the station a couple of hours after leaving home. I
paid the taxi driver, picked up my handbag and my briefcase and ran into the station. I knew I had
already missed my 9.10 to London... But anyway, I looked at the departures and arrivals board
and found out there was another train ready to leave at 9.15! Luckily it was a bit delayed... I
didn't have to worry about the ticket: my secretary had already bought it and sent it to me the
day before... I was already on the right platform, when all of a sudden I tripped. I fell down, my
briefcase opened and all my documents scattered all over the place. I wanted to scream!
Mr Furness: Unbelievable!
Mrs Compton:Yes...l was so tense and angry that I called my son and asked him to go to the
supermarket, buy some food and get some tea ready. The only thing I wanted to do at that point
was to get back home and enjoy a big breakfast..
Mr Compton: Ah ah...I'm sure you made the right choice!
