Using details from at least two documents from the lesson, as well as information from the other
lessons for support, write one to two paragraphs answering the above question.
What two documents will you use to support your response? E and F
Response:
In the Middle Ages trade played an important role in the religious spread. In document E, for
instance, the map depicts how Islam spread to Africa as spread well as trade from the middle
east. Buddhist civilization spread farther west along the silk road. The trade between companies
in cities such as Constantinople led to a lot of influences from foreign cultures and religions. The
cities like Kiev hardly influenced each other because they weren’t major centers of commerce.
They were influenced by the traders who came and went whenever they came and went. This
was also the case in Japan when Buddhism took root. It was Chinese traders who brought
Buddhism to Japan. The predominant religion in Japan would still be Shinto if there was no
trade.

Question 2: How does the art of the Middle Ages reflect the events and ideas of
the Middle Ages?
Using details from at least two documents from the lesson, as well as information from the other
lessons for support, write one to two paragraphs answering the above question.
What two documents will you use to support your response? Cand D
Response:
Artistic expressions of the Middle Ages reflect ideas, events, and trends of those times. A famous
example is Joan of arc’ painting. Through this painting, we can see the influence of religion on
political decisions at the time. Middle aged people were extremely religious during that time and
acted out in the name of their faith or God. Joan of arc is depicted in the painting with a banner
that contains three angels. The banner is a representation of her service to heaven and God.
Among the French people, Joan of arc was regarded as a famous heroine and a symbol of the
national unification. She was credited with liberating a city from the English. As Joanna of arc is
Especially armor in the painting, we can infer this similarly, the Kokin wakash anthology of
medieval art reflects the lives of people living back then. Especially noteworthy are 1000 poems
from Japan from the Middle Ages. Also included are biographical sketches of the poets and their
influences. It is easy to see how the poems reflect the way people lived and spent their time
during the Middle Ages in Japan because they were divided into categories like seasons, love and
travel.

Question 3: Is "the Dark Ages" an appropriate term to describe the Middle

Ages? Why or why not?
Using details from at least two documents from the lesson, as well as information from the other
lessons for support, write one to two paragraphs answering the above question.
What two documents will you use to support your response? A and B
Response:
A better name for the Middle Ages might be called the dark ages. Because of the lack of
information during this time, it was known as the dark ages. According to American cyclopedia,
it was a period of intellectual depression during the dark ages. The Magna carta, Justinian’s code,
the first universities, as well as the parliament came from this period. Most of the laws in many
countries today are based on the roman code and the Magna carta. Additionally, parliament and
the magna carta constitute the backbone of the democracy. Among other works from the Middle
Ages, these are among the most noteworthy. Beside protecting right, Magna carta contained
restrictions on the power of the king. This is also reflected in the United States constitution,
which states that the English church is to be free and to enjoy all of its right and liberties. When
an important idea such as freedom was born during this period, middle age seemed less dark of
intellectualism. Middle age influences can be seen in many things in modern life.
