On the traditional red and black colors of Ponce
appears the coat of arms of the city. The gold crown
with five towers indicates that Ponce is a city by
Royal Decree. As an external frame to the shield,
they appear intertwined with each other, the sugar
cane on the right side and a coffee branch on the left.
These products symbolize the main economic means
of said city in 1877, the year in which the royal right
as a city was granted by the King.

Coat of Arms of Ponce
Ponce's coat of arms was officially adopted
in 1984. Its design was based on the seal
adopted by the city in 1844, under the
administration of Mayor Salvador de Vives.

Ponce
Municipality in Puerto Rico
Ponce is a large city on the south coast of
Puerto Rico. Its well-preserved old town has
lavish mansions built in Ponce's unique
Creole architectural style, such as the Centro
Cultural de Ponce Carmen Solá de Pereira.
Nearby is the Ponce Museum of Art, famous
for its huge collections of European and
Puerto Rican art. To the south is the Paseo
Tablado La Guancha lined with restaurants
and bars. It was founded in the year 1692. It
has an area of 501.4 km² and has an
elevation of 16 meters. It has a population of
approximately 139,671.
The name of PONCE corresponds to the
surname of don Juan Ponce de León,
conqueror and first governor of the island of
Puerto Rico.
Ponce is known, indistinctly, as Ciudad
Señorial, La Perla del Sur, Ciudad de las
Quenepas and Ciudad de los Leones.
Ponceños.
The municipality of Ponce is located in the
flat southern coastal area, between the
Cordillera Central and the Caribbean Sea. It
has a temperature
approximately 80 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit
(28 to 32 Celsius) with clear sunny skies
most of the year. It rains little, which allows
constant outdoor activities.
