James Francies:Tiny Desk(home)

For the first concert that i wanted to review is James Francies concert.A little background
about James Francies.He is an american jazz pianist,keyboardist, composer and arranger.He
grew up in Houston but moved to new york to continue his musical studies.Francies playing and
composing style is explosive keyboard style, which makes up for what it lacks in thematic
development with dazzling fast runs, nuanced texture and unpredictable turn.

Next,the concert was performed by James Francies by playing the piano and his sessionist
Jeremy Dutton as drummer and Os Bereket as bassist.James Francies performed three of his
best songs titled “713”, “Rose Water”, “Sway Freedman Town”. The title of this concert is James
Francies:Tiny Desk (Home) concert. The concert was held at James Francies’s studio because
at the time there was a covid-19 outbreak.The concert was recorded before 3 June 2022 but
was posted at Tiny Desk Channel on 3 June 2022.As i watch the concert i believe the concert
and music is jazz.

Next, the concert was a new experience and different for me because my music genre is
more to rock and punk but i also hear some jazz music but this concert and the song really
impressed me.Other than that,the selection that intrigued me the most is when James Francies
play the song called “Rose Water” because as a person who is major in vocal i really like the
singer way of singing and melody of the song,the chords progression of song is really
soothing.Other than that,if the piece is a new work,my opinion about the writing of the
composition is that James Francies is really an outstanding musician because all three of song
was really well written and well composed.The work that i find most enjoyable is the third song
title “Sway Freedman Town” because i like the drum playing,the way he play and controlled the
dynamic impressed me.Besides that,there were no work that i did not enjoy.For this concert
there was no audience but i believe if there was an audience they would respond most to James
Francies.The style of music that was performed is modern jazz.

Next, after I watched the whole concert, my opinion about the performers' presentation of the
music is that they prepared well for the performance,they did a brilliant job at performing all
three songs.Plus they are all a really good and professional musician and they know how to
work together as a band,the sound was balanced.Other than that, i noticed that the bassist was
really into it,he feel the music.Lastly,the soloist James Francies is a really good soloist.

In conclusion,my main opinion about the performance is that they really did a brilliant job
playing all their songs.By watching this concert i have learnt a few thing about performance and
it's gonna helopme a lot in the future.I also love the the way usher interact or have conversation
with the audience. Overall,i love the performance and i wish i in the future i have skill to do it to.
