PAC measuring devices – RS485 / Modbus RTU wiring

Question:

How is the RS485 / Modbus RTU wiring done for different PAC measuring devices with an RS485
interface?

Answer:

The marking of the RS 485 device connections is not completely standardized; Different designations /
versions of the connections must be expected for different devices. Different requirements from different
manufacturers may also apply to termination (terminating resistors, possibly even active termination).

From practice: The rule “A to A and B to B” only applies as long as the same device types are present in
a communication line. If there is a mix of device types, this must be considered individually for each type.

Wiring example with different device types:

* 1: 120 ohm terminating resistor. Use is optional and depends on the installation.
* 2: Ground line. Use is optional and depends on the installation.
* 3: Use a shielded cable for installation (e.g. Profibus cable or Y (ST) Y 2x2x0.8).

The following table contains a collection of different devices and their RS485 connection designation,
which shows the correct connection of the communication connections with each other.
