1.

In a search for bone marrow transplant donors, why would a patient’s siblings be
considered before first cousins?

● It is because we have the same genetic information as our siblings which enables
the patient to match easily. Other relatives aren't a close enough match to the
patient because we receive half of our tissue type from our mother and a half from
our father, making our siblings to have just a one in four chance of being a match.

2. Should researchers publish genome sequences of pathogens, or should such information

be restricted to prevent the development of bioweapons? Cite a reason for your answer.

● The researchers should publish the genome sequence of pathogens because this
will help the scientist to identify the relationship of each pathogen with each other
and gain knowledge on how to overcome the unforeseen circumstances that these
pathogens may do to the people and as well as animals.

3. DNA databases of convicted felons have solved many crimes and exonerated many
innocent people. What might be the benefits and dangers of establishing database on
everyone? How should such a program be instituted?

● One major risk of having your data registered to the government is privacy and
data vulnerability. It is a popular topic on online discussion platforms. According
to them, people are saying that some companies sell the information of people
registered to their system as another way to gain money. Sometimes, there are
times that people who gain access to these private information use it to fake their
identity especially in this era where you can replace anything in your body.
● An advantage of this is, it is easier to track and record the people’s
information/identity
● I think programs like this should only be facilitated by one big company with an
assurance of no data brokers and be consistently systematic with the phase of data
collection without the possibility of misusing the said private information.
