ANG HULING EL BIMBO PLAY REVIEW

After the successful first run of the Musical play Ang Huling Elbimbo. The play
made its way to restage in 2019. It was the first play I have watched within the year.
And We were able to have the seats last March 16, 2019 around 3:00 in the afternoon at
the Newport Performing Arts Theater inside Resorts World Manila’s Newport Mall.

The Musical follows the trials and triumphs of Three friends (Hector, Emman
and Anthony) who met in college and happens to meet a girl named after the character
of “Joy” who is an Out of the school youth helping her Aunt to sell “Turon ” in the
college where the 3 main character studied. The plot twist of the Musical play started in
a particular scene wherein Emman, Hector and Anthony (main character in the story)
together with Joy celebrates their victory over their college accomplishments.

I was amazed by the character of Joy on how she played the character of the
typical naïve out of the school youth girl from the province who tries to escape the
shortcomings in life. I was surprised how she turns into a girl who hopes to be saved by
the captain of the troop. A typical character who cries over heart aches and dream to
enter college. The one who was very reliant and the way she acts about hopes in life.
The best part of her is how strong she fights for her life, how is she as a loving family, a
friend and a mother. The character is very natural.

The whole cast delivers their characters well. Each characters were given justice
by the actors and actresses in the play. The way they response to each other is one of the
most applauding part of the play. It was very natural, the facial expressions, emotions,
body gestures and the way they deliver the lyrics of the song and the scripts where very
likely as if they were just conversing with each other the natural way. I was carried
away on how they act when something not so good happen in the story, or even how I
felt the hatred to the character of “Kagawad” who happens to be the drug dealer. The
play and the characters were so natural, It is very realistic that it could be possibly
happen in everyday life and is somewhat relatable.
Another thing is how the set was design. Every scene was perfectly decorated to
the theme of every scenario. The atmhospere will make you feel to go back in time and
looking at the memories you have hearing the famous hits. It brings me back to where I
came from. The way I and my friends sung the songs of Eheads groping around the
cassettes we brought to school. The way we shared our glass of beer singing the song. It
really feels home watching the the movie. For me the way they plan and draped the
stage adds up to the to the uniqueness of the scenes (The Aling Toyang’s song in
particullar)

I was mesmerized on how they connect each track from E-Heads playlist.
Watching the Musical play makes me believe that there are really stories behind the
tracks I have heard starting when I was a child. I was a fan of their song and I was in
loved even more. Though there are some point that I am expecting that they will be
including some of the songs in a particular scene. Maybe I was just very excited and
pleased to hear every song in their playlist. But all in all it was a Kudos! If I will be
going to rate it 4 as the highest, I will be rating it 3.9 my deductions go to some of the
songs I want to hear that is not included. This Musical plays takes me to the story in
every lyrics of the song. The play is highly recommended to those who wants to relax
and feel the joy of Yesterday. This Musical play really feels Home. It is somewhat tragic
but I really enjoyed how the stories was being connected. It is somewhat heavy but also
somewhat overwhelming to the heart. Maybe I enjoyed the songs more than the
storyline. I am really a fan. The play was good but the way they sang the song and
connect it to different kind of situation attracts me the most. It was really a good job.
Upon leaving the theater with my overwhelmed heart hearing the songs of my
childhood. That is when I realized that the Musical play Ang Huling El Bimbo touches
my heart. Walking, it saddens me to think that living life is too hard. That fighting for a
good life is like reading a book without the knowledge of reading. But it is always a
choice to learn to read. Everything is hard before it become easy.
