Yojin Myanmar Cement in Yangon

Yojin Myanmar Cement, a subsidiary of Yojin Group in Korea, is the first cement plant in Yangon, Myanmar. Unlike other cement
plants located near the mine, the plant is located in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone, where only the clinker, an intermediate
material of cement, is imported and subjected to grinding. Meanwhile, Yojin imported major equipment from Europe and Korea,
and currently 10 employees from Korea manage the quality and service directly. Therefore, both raw material quality and production
technology of Yojin Cement are ahead of local production.

This year, Logistics Corporation was established, start its own warehouse in Mingaladon following truck purchases, and carry out
both bag cement and external logistics together. As the market entry strategy has focused on the bulk business, we are now looking
forward to expanding the bag cement market by launching the logistics business and promoting and marketing in earnest.

WELCOMING SPEECH

Greetings from the Chairman, Choi, Joon Myung

Hello, I am Joon Myung Choi, the Chairman of Yojin Construction & Engineering.
Firstly, I would like to thank you for your love for Yojin cement of Yojin Construction & Engineering in Ko-
rea, and I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Myanmar construction department officials,
including the Korean Embassy in Myanmar, who helped in the opening of the Slag Cement Technology
Seminar in Yangon, Myanmar.
Myanmar has a high annual economic growth rate of 6-7%. The skyline of Yangon is changing every day
as overseas investment attraction has become more active and demand for housing, businesses, accom-
modations, as well as industrial facilities is constantly increasing.
At this moment of Myanmar construction industry’s new leap, in order to play an important role in enter-
ing overseas business and developing Myanmar economy, Yojin Construction & Engineering combined its
40 years of construction expertise and the advanced cement production technology of Korea to establish
and operate a 1 million ton cement plant in Yangon at the end of 2018, and has set up a logistics corpora-
tion this year to gear up the Myanmar business.
Last September, President Jae In Moon of South Korea visited Myanmar to further strengthen the friendly cooperation between the two coun-
tries, which has been growing since the diplomatic relations in 1975. Through Korea’s New Southern Policy for prosperity with ASEAN, Korea
is walking alongside the growth and development of Myanmar. And at the center of this is Yojin Group and Yojin Cement. Based on the trust and
friendship of both countries, Yojin Group will do its best to help Myanmar’s construction and cement business settle down as a high value-added
industry that will lead future growth.
In order to become a company that contributes to the sustainable growth of Myanmar, Yojin Group will continue to carry out the local construc-
tion business, starting with Yojin Myanmar Cement, and various activities such as social contribution and cultural exchanges. We will become a
company that is most loved by Myanmar, a company that has the highest brand value, and a company with the highest reliability.
Please continue to keep your eyes on Yojin Group’s progress as we grow with Myanmar.
Thank you.

WELCOMING SPEECH

Greetings from the Vice Chairman, Choi, Eun Sang

Hello, I am Eun Sang Choi, the Vice Chairman of Yojin Construction & Engineering.
We are pleased to hold the Slag Cement Technology Seminar hosted by Yojin Myanmar Cement and spon-
sored by the Korean Embassy in Myanmar. In addition, I would like to thank all the experts who will share
their excellent ideas and the distinguished guests for attending amidst a busy schedule.
Since its founding in 1976, the Yojin Construction & Engineering has been successfully carrying out housing
and construction projects in Korea under the management philosophy of customer satisfaction, a spirit of
challenge, and respect for human beings. Based on the accumulated know-how & expertise, we have es-
tablished and operated an ultra-modern cement plant with an annual production of 1 million tons in Yangon,
Myanmar in 2018.
Myanmar is an emerging repository of new growth in Southeast Asia, boasting of various and abundant
natural resources, a population of 60 million people and high labor productivity. Yojin Construction & En-
gineering took note of the high development potential of Myanmar and has taken the lead in making bold
investments and distributing the highest quality cement through the Yojin Myanmar cement plant.
Yojin Myanmar Cement will take another leap forward with this seminar as the starting point. Slag cement, which is introduced to Myanmar for the
first time, is superior to the general Portland cement and has a high long-term strength development. Therefore, its demand is expected to grow
even more in Myanmar, where the SOC business is expanding such as the construction of the Friendship Bridge. Yojin Myanmar Cement will play
a pivotal role at the center. So today we are confident that this will be a significant opening for the new future of Myanmar’s construction industry.
Moving forward, Yojin Construction & Engineering will continue to cooperate actively as a growth partner for the development of cement and con-
struction industry in Myanmar and will develop into the best company for the customers by always producing and supplying products with the best
quality through the best facilities, aiming to become a first-class company in Myanmar.
We hope that today’s seminar will increase your understanding of slag cement and be a beneficial opportunity to actively respond to the Myanmar
construction industry that is changing through effective production and supply. Yojin Construction & Engineering will endeavor to be a reliable partner
that repays the love and support of our customers.

Why we need Slag Cement in Myanmar

25th Oct 2019

Mr. Soe Naing
Consultant of myanmar cement assoication
Table of contents

1. Most commonly used cement in Myanmar

2. Why not blended Cement?

3. The Turning Point in Myanmar

4. Why Slag Cement?

5. Slag Cement Advantage?

6. The Myanmar Pioneer in the field of Slag Cement

82
Main Session

Most commonly used cement in Myanmar

The most commonly used ceramic cement

used in Myanmar today is Ordinary Portland
Cement, O.P.C. On average, 95% of Clinker
95% and 5% Gypsum are produced by O.P.C.
This means that only Pure Portland Cement
is used in Myanmar, and it is often used to
discontinue the use of mixed blend cement or
mixed-cement.

83
Main Session

Why not blended Cement ?

This is due to the fact that Demand has not been sufficient
in Myanmar until 2000. Therefore, in cement shops selling
cement, mixed sand products are often sold. Before 2000,
such fake events often occurred.
Therefore, special attention was given to the cement qual-
ity control of the Ministry of Industry No. 1 of the cement
industry in Myanmar. Cement factories are not allowed to
include cement except for clinker and gypsum. Some fac-
tories have proposed to produce blended cement, but the
industry did not accept it.

84
Main Session

The Turning Point in Myanmar

However, since the construction of the Yeywa

hydropower project since 2000, the construc-
tion of the Yeywa Dam can not be made by
Ordinary Portland Cement (O.P.C) alone, but
Pozolan or Fly Ash will only be successful.
Because of the use of cement, it is necessary
to combine cement with Pozzolan or Fly Ash
in order to reduce the heat of hydration due
to the high degree of heated hydration and
Soe Naing / MCA Consultant
the resulting heat transfer.
The Yeywa Dam hydropower project was successfully constructed with cement and Pozzolan.
In fact, such a Massive Concrete Structure should be used with Low Heat Cement Type like Slag
Cement, P.P.C & Fly Ash .
As a result of the Yeywa Dam project, people were aware that Blended Cement in Myanmar, but had
no more need for its use because of high import price.

85
Main Session

Why Slag Cement ?

O.P.C has a heat-of-hydration called a heat

source when it reacts with water. It is dangerous
for large buildings to cause breakage due to heat
build-up in a massive concrete structure. There-
fore, it is necessary to use Slag Cement and oth-
er blended one when building massive concrete
structures.
The Slag Cement ( G.G.B.F.S), which is used to
produce blended cement, is beneficial to both
the manufacturer and the consumer.
Because the blast furnace slag called Iron Ore
(Iron Ore) coal and lime stone in the Blast Fur-
nace, the metallic iron melts, and the remaining
are Granulated Blast Furnace Slag. Soe Naing / MCA Consultant

86
Main Session

Slag Cement Advantage ?

There are many SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, CaO, and MgO found in cement in many
slags. However, these are in the cement mixing system, which is made of ce-
ment, but it is a mixture of ordinary and non-sludge. They have no cementitious
properties called cement properties. However, when the ceramic slag and slag
are properly mixed, the catalysts, such as C3S, C2S, in the cement are activated
as catalysts in the slag, resulting in their cementitious properties. In this way,
Slag Cement has become a very useful cement.
Slag Cement does not have as much of the Heat of Hydration, which reacts
with water.

This is a great way to build a Massive Concrete Structure.

Moreover, Slag Cement is well tolerated by chemical sulfur, which is very
resistant to saline water. Good use of Sulphate Attack. Also, slag is used as an
additive, but Pozzolan and Fly ash can be combined at most 30%, but the slag
