MONOLOGUE – EATING HABITS / EXPERIENCES

Hi, my name is Isa, I’m twenty eight years old, I live in L’Olleria and I’m a teacher.

The topic I’ve given to talk about is “eating habits and eating experiences”. I
think that it’s important because according to an article I read recently, nowadays
people admit that they are living in an stressful life, which include be busy usually, eat
quickly and fat food in different places like in the car or in the street without doing sport
because they don’t have free time to themselves and, finally, eat sweets to be
emotionally better. Recent studies show that these kinds of habits have increased a
seventy per cent more than in 2011.

First of all, I wanted to talk about the question, why we gain weight hen we’re
stressed? It’s easy; stress increases our appetites, makes us need fat food, and interferes
with our willpower to implement a healthy lifestyle. It is because when our brain detects
the presence of a threat it releases a cascade of chemicals, including adrenaline to
prepare to handle the threat by making you feel alert. In the short-term, adrenaline
helps you feel less hungry as your blood flows away from the internal organs and to your
large muscles to prepare for “fight or flight.” However, once the effects of adrenaline
wear off, cortisol, known as the “stress hormone,” hangs around and starts signaling the
body to replenish your food supply. As you have used up a lot of energy, your body
needs more stores of fat and glucose. For this reason, when we are nervous we need to
eat food that is high in protein because it helps our brain to work more efficiently. The
problem is that there is a lot of protein food which is genetically modified and we eat it
without know what are we eating really and, in the future it can be worst for our health.

On the other hand, it’s necessary speak about children’s eating habits. The
transition into late childhood and adolescence can also be characterized by
undesirable changes in eating behaviors such as increased consumption of sugar, poor
snacks and food away from home like fast food, and a decline in the consumption of
nutrient-dense foods. Meal patterns also tend to change, as teenagers are more likely
to skip breakfast and less likely to participate in family dinners. All of these trends are
associated with decreased diet quality and may partially explain the fact that most
adolescents are failing to meet the majority of dietary recommendations.

As a consequence, nowadays we have people who are having healthy

problems because of the poor eating habits. They include under- or over-eating, not
having enough of the healthy foods we need each day, or consuming too many types
of food and drink, which are low in fiber or high in fat, salt or sugar. Scientifics have
shown that that fast food can impair our daily health and wellbeing and reduce our
ability to lead an enjoyable and active life.

Otherwise, there are professionals who are working against the clock every day
to help people to improve their health. They are nutritionists and personal trainers for
example, which can show that people stay better if they work out an hour every day,
doing different kinds of exercises like swimming, walking or something like that. Buts it’s
really important too, spend money on good quality food and, specially, cut down on
sweets and fatty food to lose weight.

one essential factor that helps us to stay healthy and be active.
