1. SOLUTION GAS RESERVOIR

ABOVE THE BUBBLE POINT
SOLUTION GAS RESERVOIR ABOVE THE BUBBLE POINT

1. Withdrawal

Np

(N – Np)βo N βoi

Nβoi = (N-Np)βo
N = Np βo / (βo- βoi)
2. Compressibility

A) Oil Expansion B) Water Expansion c) Pore volume Reduction

Co = 1/Vo (dVo/∆P) Cw = 1/Vw (dVw/∆P) Cf = 1/PV (dPV/∆P)

dVo = Co.Vo. ∆P dVw = Cw.Vw. ∆P dVw = Cf.PV. ∆P
Vo = Nβoi Vw = PV.Sw = N.βoi.Sw / (1-Sw) PV = N.βoi. / (1-Sw)
dVo = Co.N βoi. ∆P dVw = Cw.N βoi.Sw. ∆P / (1-Sw) dPV = Cf.N βoi. ∆P / (1-Sw)

Compressibility effect = dVo+dVw+dPV

= Co.N βoi. ∆P + Cw.N βoi.Sw. ∆P / (1-Sw) + Cf.N βoi. ∆P / (1-Sw)
= N βoi. ∆P {Co + CwSw / (1-Sw) + Cf / (1-Sw)}
For simplifying the equation consider “Coe = {Co + CwSw / (1-Sw) + Cf / (1-Sw)}”
Compressibility effect = N βoi. ∆P .Coe
And “Coe” is the effective oil compressibility
The material balance equation will be modified as follows:

Nβoi = (N-Np) βo + N βoi. ∆P .Coe

Nβoi = N βo -Np.βo + N βoi. ∆P .Coe

Np. βo= N βo -N.βoi + N βoi. ∆P .Coe

Np βo = N (βo - βoi + βoi. ∆P .Coe)

N = Np βo / (βo - βoi + βoi. ∆P .Coe)

Since “βo – βoi” is negligible , then the equation could be simplified as follows:

N = Np βo / (βoi. ∆P .Coe)
2. SOLUTION GAS RESERVOIR

SOLUTION GAS RESERVOIR BELOW THE BUBBLE POINT

1. Withdrawal

Np
(N – Np)βo +
+N(Rsi-Rs)βg
+NpRsβg NpRpβg
N βoi
-NpRpβg

Nβoi = (N-Np)βo + N(Rsi-Rs) + Np.Rs. βg+-NpRp βg

N = Np {βo + βg (Rp-Rs) / {βo- βoi + βg(Rsi-Rs)}

Where:
Rp = Cumulative GOR = Gp/Np
Rs = solution gas in oil
N = Oil in Place
Np = cumulative oil Production
2. Compressibility

If compressibility effect of the oil, water and rock is considered,

then the equation will be as follows:

N = Np {βo + βg (Rp-Rs) / {βo- βoi + βg(Rsi-Rs)+βoi. ∆P .Coe}

3. GAS CAP RESERVOIR WITH
WATER DRIVE
GENERAL FORM OF MATERIAL BALANCE
By substituting U & Ui , then the equation will be

If the following functions are considered:

Then the equation will be written in the following form:

This equation has 2 unknowns “We , N”, so, it can not be solved

So, we have to consider that there is no water influx and solve the
following equation to get N at different Pressures

Then to draw the N Versus Np and different pressures and Np.

If there is no water influx , then a constant value of N is always obtained
at each pressure and Np
If there is water influx to the reservoir, then, at each pressure and Np
there will be a new value for N always increasing with Np. By
extrapolating the line to zero Np , it is the value of N.
The effect of water influx on the N versus Np relationship
