CASE STUDY AT OPHTHALMIC DISPENSING

Myself Sayoki ghosh and I am an 3rd batch optometry student of the

in the department of DISPENSING at the Institute where I have been
posted at different branches of the eye hospital and this is brief
review about my experience at the optical centers at the different
eye care centers under L.V. Prasad Eye Institute .

Alwal Opticals:-

CASE 1:

An old patient came in with his spectacles. He complained that that

his spectacle temple got damaged while playing with his grandson.
He did have a checkup on that day at the eye care center.

The patient had the following power:-

PGP:-

Distance Near
RE +2.25D +4.00D
LE +2.50D +4.25D

The patient was wearing Metal semi rimless frame. There was no 4
point touch. The type of frame temple was Skull temple and the
temples were loose on both sides.

The lenses on both sides were not in good condition. The LE lens was
partly broken at temporal. The coating on both lenses got eroded on
some parts. From the sound, the material of the lens was CR-39.It
was bifocal lens (Kryptok bifocal).
After having checkup the patient had the following prescription:-

Distance Add
RE +1.50/-0.50 x 23 +2.25D
LE +1.50/-0.25 x 162 +2.00D

So the patient also said that he wants to make his new prescription
in the new glasses. Accordingly he was counseled and different lens
types and coatings were shown from different companies to the
patient so that the patient can understand and choose accordingly
the type of lens which would be suitable .

On closer inspection of the frame, it was seen that the screws at the
frame hinge got loose. So it was made tight with the screw tightening
pliers.

The patient ordered for the Neyon bifocal lenses with ARC coating.

CASE 2:-

One of the patient came in with a complain that he is having a frame

from RayBan and the patient is complaining that the lens from the
frames coming out constantly .I started counseling the patient by
first greeting them then I started checking the patient’s spectacles .
There was no X-ing , there was 4 point touch, the wrap angle and the
pantoscopic tilt was within the range. So I took it the Edging lab and
over there it was seen that since the spectacle hinge screw were too
tight so the pressure which is exerted from both side of the frames
resulted in oozing out of the lenses . So the screws were made loose
and the lens were fixed in the frame.
