Learning About IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS on Cloud Computing

Before we get into the mattery, first what is Cloud Computing? Cloud computing is the on-
demand availability of computer system resources, data storage, and management by the user. Cloud
Computing are helpful on business world.
After we understand what Cloud Computing is, now were head in about what is IaaS, PaaS, SaaS.
From the abbreviation, IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service), PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service), and SaaS
(Software-as-a-Service).

What is IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS?

1. SaaS (Software-as-a-Service)
According to Techradar, SaaS is a software that is used as an online service, this SaaS is also
referred to as a Cloud application service. They use the internet to run a third-party
application. In example of SaaS service is Office 365.

2. PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service)
PaaS or Platform as a Service is a Cloud service that is provided in the form of a platform and
can be utilized by users to create applications on it. PaaS provides a framework for developers
that they can build on and use to build customized applications. When you use a PaaS model
service, all servers, storage and networks are managed by the company or a third-party
provider. However, developers can manage application management. One example of this
PaaS service model is Microsoft Azure.

3. IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service)
Understanding IaaS or Infrastructure as a Service is a type of cloud service model which is
basically a physical server and a virtual server. IaaS services provide cloud resources such as
servers, networks, storage and data centre space. One example of this IaaS service model is
Microsoft Azure.
Characteristic of SaaS (Software-as-a-Service)

 Managed from a central location

 Can be access by using an internet
 Service users are not responsible for hardware or software updates Hardware or software
updates are the responsibility of the service provider.
Characteristic of PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service)
• Smooth integration with powerful web and database services
• Company-owned resources are easy to scale up and down as your business changes
• Provide a variety of services to assist application development, testing and deployment
• Can be accessed by multiple users through the same development application
Characteristic of IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service)

 Resources available as a service

 Fees vary depending on company use
 Highly scalable service
 Can be accessed by multiple users in one device
 The company has full control of its infrastructure
 High flexibility

What Are the Advantages of SaaS, IaaS and PaaS?

1. SaaS
Software as a Service differs from the traditional cloud model in that applications are installed
and configured automatically. Service users only need to focus on their data. The device
needed to use the application is a gadget that is connected to an internet connection.

2. PaaS
 Powerful and multitenant software
 Simple and cost-effective application development and deployment
 Easier migration to hybrid model

3. IaaS
 Cloud system with the most flexible and dynamic service model
 Purchase of services can be based on consumption
 Resources can be purchased according to needs
 Easy to automate deployment of storage, network, server and processing power
 Clients are in full control of their infrastructure
What are The Disadvantages of SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS?
1. SaaS
 Interoperability
 Lack of integration and customization support
 Lack of data control and security
 Feature limitations
2. PaaS
The disadvantage of the IaaS cloud service model is that you must take care of your own OS,
security, databases, and so on. Because most service providers only provide servers and
networks.
3. IaaS
The disadvantage of the PaaS cloud service model is in the form of security problems. The
security feature in PaaS cloud computing is platform security. That means it is intended for
platform security, not application security. So, you must keep in mind the security risks of
your application.
