Write legibly and submit your work at the end of week 1.

To begin, consider the significance of COLREGS. It is one of the most important International

Conventions that all seagoing Officers must understand and apply in real-world situations. It is the

crucial international agreement that governs the rules of the road at sea. As a legal document, the

language of the COLREGs is not always clear to end users, which leads to misunderstandings and

ambiguity.

For the question of who will adhere to COLREGS, in my opinion, the COLREGS are for everyone,

just as the ocean or the is for everyone, but in order to navigate safely, you will need the COLREGS to

reduce the possibility of colliding with other vessels. The International Maritime Organization (IMO)

established guidelines for ships and other vessels at sea to follow in order to avoid collisions between

two or more vessels.

Finally, the COLREGS will be implemented in the Philippines; from what I understand, the

Philippines is using these rules to produce well-rounded seafarers capable of sailing safely around the

world. The occurrence of these large-scale maritime accidents demonstrated the Philippines' low level

of maritime safety. Following the rules, changing mindsets, and respecting the rules are my

recommendations for improving maritime disaster prevention in the Philippines.
