Introduction of Institution and Department


Fazaia Bilquis College of Education for Women
Fazaia Bilquis College of Education for Women PAF Base Nur Khan is not only the top
ranking teaching college of the country but is also one of the most prestigious educational
institutions of Pakistan Air Force. It has a rich history and distinguished record in the field of
education especially teacher education. Since its establishment in 1984 the college, as a center
for Pakistan Air Force Women Association (PAFWA) activities & for the training and education
of women, has produced excellent and well trained, enlightened and competent teachers to PAF
institutions in particular and to public schools in general. These teachers, scholars and
educationists are working in different fields of our national economy. The college is known for
attaining top positions and high pass percentages in courses it runs. Though the College has
sustained the high standing since its humble beginning but it is ever vigilant not only to maintain
its reputation but also to constantly review and invigorate its academic presence. It also has two
lab schools functioning in its premises: PAF Montessori School and PAF School for Special
Education.

FBCEW aims to emerge as a comprehensive institution, dedicated to excellence, and


committed to national and international educational perspective. FBCEW is a prestigious and
modern college known for outstanding teaching quality, research excellence, good governance
and superior community relations. The college provides access to high caliber students without
discrimination of any kind. FBCEW commits itself and all its resources to produce culturally
enlightened, knowledgeable, academically competent, and productive citizens and work force for
the national development and progress. The programs offered at college are accredited with
respective councils and the new programs offered are in the process of accreditation.
Department of Psychology
BS Psychology
Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. Program of BS
Psychology was initiated in 2012 with the first intake of students in Fall, 2012. BS Psychology is
a 04 Years Degree Program, which includes core areas of psychology. In addition, the program
enables the students to develop an understanding of their own behavior and insight. It also
expands their knowledge of understanding the behaviors of others, its causes and outcomes.

Beside the major areas of psychology, it also focuses on expanding the knowledge of students in
other areas of social sciences such as English, Islamic Studies, Sociology, Pakistan studies,
International Relations, and Communication to upgrade and bring advancement in their academic
as well as professional lives. It also helps to make them more confident, self-reliant and research-
oriented so that they can perform well in various domains of Psychology.

The Department of Psychology is committed to excellence in graduate education. Our
faculty and graduates are expected to be experienced, competent and ethical professionals
dedicated to the science of psychology and its application to daily life circumstances. Our
department provides a foundation for the scientific understanding of behavior and mental
processes. Our graduate programs prepare students to become Psychologists, School Psychology
Specialists, and Professional Counselors who provide evidence-based services for children,
adults, and families in a variety of healthcare and educational settings. Our department promotes
an environment characterized by collaborative and practical learning among its students, and
faculty, guided by core values of college.

● To teach psychology to students in such manner that will introduce them dynamically to
its extensive scope.
● To provide knowledge of basic and applied aspects of psychology. To make students
competent and skillful by giving them exposure to professional domains of Psychology.
● To conduct forward-looking research within and across the principal areas of psychology.

● To promote connections with the departments, institutes and with the greater community
to make them able to work for common good.

Objective 1
To teach psychology in such manner that will introduce them dynamically to its extensive
scope.

The objective is aligned with the mission statement of department and institution by
providing quality teaching in all the domains of psychology to enhance the theoretical as well

as conceptual understanding of students. The main concern of teaching is to deliver basic


subject knowledge and improving the academic performance of students which is done by
using careful assessment techniques. Students are provided with subject understanding and
its application in diverse settings as well as cultures while keeping moral and ethical
consideration in mind to become professionally sound.
Objective-2:
Promote competence by giving exposure to professional domains of Psychology.
In alignment with the mission statement of institution and department, in order to promote
competence within the professional domain students are provided with exposure of different
setups, they are provided with different opportunities which not only focuses on encouraging
interactive sessions in the classroom but outside the class as well. Students are sent to the
different hospitals to apply their knowledge of psychopathology, assessment and counselling,
learn to deal with clients, take case histories and guide them. Students also are sent to the
special school where they interact with children with various developmental disorders
through which they get understanding of working with those children. Students are also
provided with tasks such as compiling portfolios while applying different assessment
techniques and psychological testing. Students are also guided to carry out research projects
in order to get insight of the behavior and mental process.
Objective 3

To conduct forward-looking research within and across the principal areas of psychology.

In order to get understanding of emerging trends and advancement in different areas of


psychology students are encouraged to carryout novel researches. They are welcomed to
come up with new and creative ideas in field of psychology research. It does not only
enhance the understanding of data analysis but also give them insight into social,
psychological and emotional underpinnings of the behavior. It enables them to use these
research findings to work on the broader levels.
Objective 4

To promote connections with the departments, institutes and with the greater community
to make them able to work for common good.

The objective is aligned with institution, department and program mission statement by
employing various methods through which students can apply learned knowledge for the
community good. Students are encouraged to work on community level which enhances their
connections and motivation towards the wellness of society. Students are directed to arrange
awareness programs related to mental health and its importance in various fields of life in
which students from other department also participate.

Standard 1-2: The program must have documented outcomes for graduating students. It
must be demonstrated that the outcomes support the program objectives and that
graduating students are capable of performing these outcomes.

identified. Departmental meetings are held in order to take the necessary actions, like
utilization of variety of technologies, considering new learning methods, providing
collaboration and socialization opportunities, engaging parents or guardians for the
improvement of student’s performance.

Standard 3-2: There must be adequate support personnel for instruction and maintaining
the laboratories.
 A lab assistant for Psychology lab has been hired for assisting and providing consistent
support and guidance to students during lab hours. However, deficiency of a proper lab in
terms of space and resources creates hindrance in achieving the goals of the program.

Standard 3-3: The University computing infrastructure and facilities must be adequate to
support program’s objectives.

Computing Infrastructure and Facilities:


IT Department with the help of lab personals are always available for the help of staff and
students.
Systems are available in library as well as in computer labs of CS Department for students.

Criterion 4: Support and Advising


Standard 4-1: Courses must be offered with sufficient frequency and number for students to
complete the program in a timely manner.

Standard 5-1: The process by which students are admitted to the program must be based on
quantitative and qualitative criteria and clearly documented. This process must be

Applicant seeking admission in BS PSY Hons must have passed HSSC examination from
any Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Pakistan ‘OR’ An examination
equivalent to the Intermediate for which such candidates must submit an Equivalence
Certificate issued by the Inter-Board Chairman Committee, Islamabad. Applicants must have
scored 50% or more marks.
 The admission criteria will be based on the following:

It is ensured through the following means:

Standard 5-5: The process that ensures that graduates have completed the requirements of the
program must be based on standards, effective procedures and clearly documented. This
process must be periodically evaluated to ensure that it is meeting its objectives.
The department follows Air University assessment and grading policy which clearly state the
graduation criteria. The evaluation depends solely on a students' performance in examinations of
all courses of the program. Even if he/she passes all the courses in the program, students is
required to have a CGPA of 2.0 or greater to graduate. Student is also required to pass the
evaluation of his Final Year Project and demonstrate that adequate skills have been acquired
through a proper implementation of knowledge in the Final Year Project.

Criterion 6: Faculty
Intent: Faculty members must be current and active in their discipline and have the necessary
technical depth and breadth to support the program. There must be enough faculty members to
provide continuity and stability, to cover the curriculum adequately and effectively, and to allow
for scholarly activities. To meet this criterion, the standards in this section must be satisfied.

Standard 6-1:There must be enough full time faculty who are committed to the program to
provide adequate coverage of the program areas/courses, continuity and stability. The
interests and qualifications of all faculty members must be sufficient to teach all courses,
plan, modify and update courses and curricula. All faculty members must have a level of

competence that would normally be obtained through graduate work in the discipline. The
majority of the faculty must hold a Ph.D. in the discipline.

Standard 6-2:All faculty members must remain current in the discipline and sufficient time
must be provided for scholarly activities and professional development. Also, effective
programs for faculty development must be in place.

To accomplish its cherished mission, the department places equal weight-age on the
dissemination of knowledge (teaching), the creation of knowledge (research) and the application
of knowledge (service). This culture is instrumental in giving the students a technical versatility
and driving intellectual curiosity with which to carry out applied research leading to the
development of science and technology. The faculty is encouraged to develop its professional
skills and remain current in areas of specialization and technology. In this regard, faculty is
provided utmost support from institution for attending conferences, workshops and training
opportunities. Each faculty member of the department avails opportunities to improve their
education and professional training.

 Describe existing faculty development programs at the departmental and university


level. Demonstrate their effectiveness in achieving faculty development.
FBCOEW organizes yearly training sessions on effective teaching methods, paper setting,
research methodology and CMIS trainings.
Standard 6-3: All faculty members should be motivated and have job satisfaction to excel in
their profession.

Faculty Motivation
College offers a competitive pay package as well as resources like transportation allowance,
medical allowance and living allowance to maximize the job satisfaction and to enhance the
quality of work. College also provides conducive learning environment to the faculty.
Need some revision in this regard is required as well.

Criterion 7: Institutional Facilities


Intent: Institutional facilities, including library, computing facilities, classrooms and offices must
be adequate to support the objective of the program. To satisfy this criterion a number of
standards must be met.

Standard 7-1: The institution must have the infrastructure to support new trends in
learning such as e-learning.

Internet facility
In order to access internet, systems are allocated to all faculty members and admin staff. Wi-Fi
is available to all students as well as staff members.
Computer labs
4 Computer labs with around 25 work stations each. These labs are fully equipped with latest
available machines that are centrally connected on domain-based network. These labs provide
the facilities of internet, individual email address, individual secure profiles and separate storage
areas. Students have the access of computer labs from morning 8:00 am to 2:00 pm five days a
week.

Library
FBCOEW has an equipped library to fulfil the needs of students. The library enriches learning,
teaching, and research initiatives by providing timely access to the high-quality scholarly
information and learning material in a variety of formats. Library has a print collection of books,
novels, newspapers etc. There are discussion rooms for group study and six fully equipped
cubicles with computers in the researcher’s room. In addition to this, computers are available in
magazine room for online access to digital resources.

FBCOEW has 3 main staff rooms for FMs which have cabins and workstation. The faculty office is
provided with all basic facilities.

FBCOEW has more than 30 class rooms which are shared and used by all Departments. Some of
the rooms have multimedia and internet facility.

Standard 7-2: The library must possess an up-to-date technical collection relevant to the
program and must be adequately staffed with professional personnel.

 FBCOEW has a library in which students are provided with digital resources to access
scholarly articles and journals.

FBCOEW library is well equipped and provides access to digital library to all students for
fulfilling their need for knowledge. However, purchase of field related books is going on as
every year latest collection of books have been added. Since, books play a vital role in
polishing one capabilities and reading skills, it is important to give access to vast variety of
discipline specific books to meet program objectives.

Standard 7-3: Class-rooms must be adequately equipped and offices must be adequate to
enable faculty to carry out their responsibilities.

boards and rostrums etc., however in some classes Multimedia provision is still pending

Standard 8-1: There must be sufficient support and financial resources to attract and
retain high quality faculty and provide the means for them to maintain competence as
teachers and scholars.

 Research support is provided to all the faculty members interested in research and
development activities in their areas of interest, however financial aids and incentives are
not provided.

 Secretarial and technical Support:
Facilities that are provided to faculty are explained briefly as follows:
1. Coordination office
Coordination office provides all the necessary support related to time table, classrooms
allocation, assign batches on CMIS and reappear adjustments.
2. Computer Facilities
Each faculty member is provided with a computer workstation for academic and research
activities. The stations are equipped with all required hardware and software and kept updated by the
network support staff.

3. Internet Facility
Internet facilities are provided to each faculty and staff member on the computers allocated to them.

4. Technical Support
The faculty and staff use technical support provided by the College. The services include computer
network support services, infrastructure support services and transport services.
