BEFORE READING
CIRCLE title.
Identify information about the author, source, and publication date.
TURN all subheadings into questions,
CIRCLE all text features ( bullets, subheadings, pictures, graphs, diagrams etc)
Identify the topic/subject , any Background Information about the topic
HIGHLIGHT any repetition, Author’s Bias, restatement, and rhetorical questions
UNDERLINE cause and effect, compare-contrast, chronological, etc.)
ANSWER questions you created from subheadings
Put (PARENTHESESE) around vocabulary
Summarize paragraphs, Make predictions, Formulate opinions (agree or disagree
with the author), Make connections
Ask questions (Clarify/Connect/Conclude)
Analyze author’s point of view
Write reflections/reactions/comments
AFTER READING
Author’s purpose, message to the readers, your opinion
Go back and ANSWER your questions and write a reflection
on the significance of the title.
