FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT

DECEMBER 18, 2022

CHANT: (Led by the choir)

Come, Lord Jesus, come, Lord, come! Come, Lord Jesus,
come, Lord, come!
Open my eyes, open my mind. Open my heart to peace and
love.
PRIEST: He is the light of revelation to the peoples.
He will bring glory to his people.
ALL: He is the Saviour of the world!
The Priest then prays while a Parishioner lights the candle
“Lord, at the angel’s message, Mary, the Immaculate Virgin
became the temple of God, and was filled with the light of the
Holy Spirit, when she received your divine Word. Grant that,
after her example, we may humbly and steadfastly follow your
will. Through Christ, our Lord, Amen.”
CHANT: (Led by the choir)
‘Come, Lord Jesus’ is repeated.

Dear Friends,
In the gospel today Matthew 1:18-24, gives us the most
complete description of St Joseph. Joseph ‘being a man of
honour’ (Mt 1:19); in other words, a righteous man.
St. James tells us that the life of the righteous man is based
in faith - ‘the righteous will live by faith’ and do good works
(Cf James 2:23; Galatians 3:11; Romans 1:17), and we can see
this in Joseph’s life, even if we do not know much about him.
The light of faith directed each of Joseph’s deeds and his
good works; perhaps that is why the gospel writers only have
Joseph doing the will of God and not speaking.
Nevertheless, in the light of faith, he always subjected
himself in everything to God’s will, revealed to him through
dreams, angelic visions, through human law, or through his
duties towards his country.
Enlightened by faith he did not concern himself with the
discontinued line of David that he inherited, but only
considered the kingdom of heaven promised to him. This is
another of St Joseph’s precious virtues that should inspire
all our actions.
Our faith promises us a future life; let us
prepare for the true life that awaits us, putting
aside the empty things that belong to this short
life in exile. How can we value the commodities
of the rich or the afflictions of the poor in this
life, against the great wealth awaiting us in the
life to come?
Yours sincerely in,
Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
Fr. David

A Special Act of Sorrow
Forgive me my sins, O Lord, forgive me my sins.
The sins of my youth, the sins of my age.
The sins of my soul, the sins of my body.
My idle sins, my serious voluntary sins.
The sins I know, the sins I have concealed so long,
and which are now hidden from my memory.
I am truly sorry for every sin, mortal and venial,
for all the sins of my childhood up to the present hour.
I know my sins have wounded Your tender Heart.
O my Saviour, let me be freed from the bonds of evil
through the most bitter passion of my Redeemer.
O my Jesus, forget and forgive what I have been.
Amen
