VICIA LOISELEURII (M. B.) D. LITVINOV
(LEGUMINOSAE) U FLORI CRNE GORE
INTRODUCTION
Vicia loiseleurii (M. B.) D. Litvinov is an independent species from the Vicia
hirsuta group. V. loiseleurii together with the close related V. hirsuta (L.) S. F. Gray
belongs to the Sect. Ervum (L.) S. F. Gray (BALL 1968) or, according to KUPICHA
(1976), the species belongs to the Sect. Lenticula (Endl.) Ascher. et Graebn.
The taxonomical, nomenclatural and phytogeographical status of the V.
loiseleurii was completely unknown. Finish botanist LINDBERG (1906) found the

best solution of the problem of this taxon. Recently, WRABER (1981) in his paper on
this neglected species clearly distinguished V. loiseleurii as a good and easily
recognizable species. In the mentioned paper the author has given the known
distribution of the species in Slovenia as well as the synonymy of V. loiseleurii.
For the territory of Montenegro ROHLENA (1942) has given two localities
about the presence of the V. hirsuta var. sardoa (Moris) Hay. in Montenegro as well
as the data on the presence of V. hirsuta sensu str.
Floristical data on Vicia loiseleurii were colected during our investigation of the
Southern Montenegro as well as from the literature.
Herbarium material collected during our investigation is deposed in
Environmental Protection Agency of Montenegro in Podgorica (in the depo of the
former Republic Institution for the Protection of Nature) and Faculty of Sciencies
University of Montenegro. Known distribution of the taxon is shown in the UTM grid
of Montenegro.

In the Euro-Med PlantBase the data about the presence of V. loiseleurii (taken
from ILDIS World Database of Legumes 2010) are given for Ab(A) Gg(A) Rf(CS)
Uk(K) [Lt]. GREUTER et al. (1989: 205) in the Med-Check list have given the data on
the distribution of the species for the Mediterranean area (Hs Ga Sa It Ju RK Gr An).
The taxon V. loiseleurii has a Mediterranean distribution from Spain to Caspian
sea. In the territory of Balkan peninsula the taxon has a relatively limited distribution
with the presence in Slovenia (WRABER 1975, 1981), Croatia - Dalmatia, Istria
(VISIANI 1852, FREYN 1877, POSPICHAL 1898, LINDBERG 1906, HAYEK 1926,
TRINAJSTIĆ 1993), Makedonija (DIMESKA & al. 1997), Bulgaria (KUZMANOV 1976,
TERZIJSKI & DELIPAVLOV 1985), Greece (WRABER 1981).
For the teritory of Montenegro the taxon was cited by STUDNICZKA (1890) and
LINDBERG (1906). In his Conspectus Florae Montenegrinae ROHLENA (1942) has
given own data about the presence of the taxon in two localities (as V. hirsuta var.
sardoa (Moris) Hay.) but he didn’t cite Studniczka’s nor Lindberg’s data of this taxon
for Montenegro.
HAYEK (1906: 809) has given the data about the presence of the taxon for Da
and Mt (as V. hirsuta var. sardoa (Moris) Hay.).
PULEVIĆ (2005) in his 'Material for Vascular Flora of Montenegro - A
Supplement to Conspectus Florae Montenegrinae (J. Rohlena)' didn’t cite
Studniczka’s nor Lindberg’s data of this taxon for Montenegro. In the study of flora
and vegetation of Rumija mt. PETROVIĆ (2011) has given the data for V. hirsuta but
it is clear that these data have to be noted for V. loiseleurii.
In the area of Montenegro V. loiseleurii is found in the folowing localities:

CONCLUSIONS
Vicia loiseleurii (M. B.) D. Litvinov is an independent species from the Vicia
hirsuta group. Until recently the taxonomical, nomenclatural and phytogeographical
status of the V. loiseleurii was completely unknown.
WRABER (1981) in his paper on this neglected species clearly distinguished
V. loiseleurii as a good and easily recognizable species.
In concluson we have to state that the Vicia hirsuta sensu str. has wide
distribution throughout the Europe, while V. loiseleurii shows a marked and nearly
exclusive mediterranean distribution.
According to WRABER (1981), based on herbarium specimens, the distribution
of the V. loiseleurii includes part of Spain, France, Italy, Yugoslavia, Greece an
Soviet Union (Crimea, Caucas).

Natura Montenegrina 11(3), 2012
In the territory of Balkan peninsula the taxon has a relatively limited
distribution with the presence in Slovenia, Croatia - Dalmatia, Istria, Makedonija,
Bulgaria, Greece.
For the teritory of Montenegro the taxon was cited by STUDNICZKA (1890) and
LINDBERG (1906) but PULEVIĆ (2005) didn’t cite those data. Also, ROHLENA
(1942: 171) has given only two close localities on the presence of the species.
According to our research it is clear that the species has wider distribution,
especially in Southern Montenegro.
In Montenegro V. loiseleurii has Mediterranean-Submediterranean distribution
in the following plant communities: Rusco-Carpinetum orientalis, Rhamno-
intermediae-Paliuretum, Quercetum cerridis, Quercetum trojanae as well as in
different types of degradeted stadium of the mentioned communities (Stipo-
Salvietum officinalis, comm. with Phlomis fruticosa etc.).
