SUMMARY In the story, Leon arrived with his wife in the country meeting Leon's brother for the

first time. They took a surprising route home for Leon, but it was meant as a test for the wife to
see if she could endure the sacrifices she made and meet her new family.
The entire story serves as a test for the wife. Each test was to show whether the woman could
indeed live with strangers all for love. This can be a secondary theme, but more importantly, it is
a theme in which the main character learns that though there are sacrifices it is worth it in the
end.
He even begins to think about getting himself a wife eventually. This helps to show the theme and how
it developed. He notices through all the tests the woman though afraid will preserve through the trials in
order to be happy with Leon at his home.

The fact that the country is different from the city can be somewhat daunting the closer they get to the
home, but she still manages to overcome and under come any trials.

The wife admits to having some fear, but also shows clearly it did not stop her. This is why the theme is
related to how one may have to give up some things in order to find happiness in life or at least the best
happiness that can be found in that particular life. The trials just add to the picture being offered by the
author.

Moral Lesson
The central more of the story is the ability to sacrifice things for people you love. Maria was
brought up in a life of comforts in the city. However, she loved Leon truly and was committed to
adapt to his lifestyle. She was willing to uproot her entire life and give up her privileges to settle
in a village. She was also loving and caring towards his family, becoming a part of the family
seamlessly.
Plot
The plot of the story is how the city bride of a village boy adjusts to a life of simplicity and toil
in the village. The couple gets married in the city and visits the village to start their new life and
integrate with the rest of the family.
The father, head of the family, designs a tricky but genuine test for her to witness the reality of
the village and in the end, she passes it with flying colors.
Values
The story highlights the value of togetherness and family. It speaks about loving and caring for
each other. This entails and necessitates the ability and willingness to sacrifice selfish desires or
even comforts to make your loved ones happy.
The story praises the ability to adapt to new circumstances and being positive to change and
growth. It talks about overcoming hardships and fears and ultimately in finding peace and
happiness in each other’s betterment and wellbeing.
Another message of the story is not judging people based on appearances and giving them space to
express themselves and accept them for their differences. It also celebrates a conservative and simple
lifestyle over luxurious and ostentatious ways.

Theme:
To endure journey sacrifice is necessary. In order to achieve success, we must be strong enough,
show determination, be patient on whatever difficult event or situation you have and you must
have to sacrifice just to be happy. Try and try for you to succeed.

Symbol in the story:

The rocky road in which the rock symbolizes struggles, difficult, full of obstacles or problems on
an adventure towards reaching once destination.
Symbolism:
The only symbolism that i have found in the story was the "Journey" itself that the Maria and Leon took
before arriving home. This "journey" can symbolize the problems and obstacles that they have to face
with their relationship, where a journey can have it's ups and downs through the way, so it means that
you and your partner should be prepared with all the sacrifices you have to make in order to succeed in
your journey.

CHARACTERS
Characters:
1.Baldo - Narrator, brother of Leon
2.Leon - The husband of Maria
3.Maria - The wife of Leon
4.Labang - the family cow
5.Father - the one who instructed Baldo on what he will do while he is on the road with Leon
and Maria.

Maria wasn’t really concerned of Labang, a bull that his family kept as a pet, when the three of
them went to meet him. She even reached out and stroked Labang’s brow. Baldo saw his brother
and Maria’s closeness and affection for each other as they traveled to their house, as if in their
own planet.
They are to take a shortcut as directed by Baldo’s father, which surprises them. In Waig, on the
other hand, the stars were bright and visible. Maria had noticed it and been taken by its beauty,
so the two of them sang the song Sky strewn with stars together.
Baldo’s father summoned him to report back. He assured his father everything was fine and that
she wasn’t terrified of Labang. Maria was a city girl who had never lived in the countryside.
