"How my brother Leon brought home a wife"

By: Manuel Arguilla

1. If you are the writer of the story, how would you wrap up the story?

If I were the writer of the story, I would wrap up or end up the story in a happy

ending. Because in that story the conflict of the situation is man vs. society, as Maria

came from city she might have some difficulties in terms of living outside the city. And

also she might experience judgement, a lot of judgement from Leon's family and also

those people that she will encounter in the province. And the father of Leon and Baldo,

will he accept Maria? So as I have given a chance to end up this story, I will end this up

in way of society and Leon's family will accept Maria as part of their family, and also as a

human being they will accept no matter who she is or where she came from, because the

important thing on having a partner in life is not the stage or level of life of a person but

the personality is the thing that matter the most. I end this up in happy ending, where

Maria and Leon will live a happy life without judgement but have a lot of support and

respect from people around them.

2. What is the point of view of the story?

The setting was in Nagrebcan, Bauang, La Union where the author of this story was

born. And the point of view is told in second person point of view wherein the brother of

Leon, Baldo, was the one who narrated the story.

3. In your own words, define and discuss SACRIFICIAL LOVE.

What is sacrificial love? I think the better example of sacrificial love is when our

almighty God gave us his son, to save us from our sin. God and Jesus Christ can live

their lives peacefully even though we're not with them, but as God loves us, he sent his

only begotten son even though he won't benefit anything, he still do it in the name of his

love for us. Because as far as I know, sacrificial love is a love that very unconditional.

Even though you won't get back the same thing that you gave, you're still giving. Even

though you won't benefit anything, you're still doing the things that making people's

happy. You sacrifice your own self just to make them satisfied for good and that is what

we called "SACRIFICIAL LOVE".

4. What is the moral lesson of the story?

For me, the moral lesson of this story is learn to sacrifice. Because not all things that

making us happy is just got easily, but we sacrifice a lot of things even though ourselves

just to achieve it. To endure journey sacrifices is necessary. In order to achieve success

we must be strong enough, show determination, be patient on whatever difficult event

or situation you must have to sacrifice just to be happy. Nothing is achieved easily, you

need to sacrifice in order to make your life happy.
