Dear Admission Committee of the Faculty of Dentistry, Prince of Songkla University,

Post-graduated studies in oral and maxillofacial surgery

My name is Thanakrit Kueakun. I’m 27 years old. I had accepted to the faculty of
dentistry, Prince of Songkla University since 2014, and then, graduated in 2020 with second-
class honours. Currently, I’ve been working at Ranot Hospital as a general dentist for almost 2
years. After my graduation, I spent the remaining time of my final year practicing at oral surgery
clinic to obtain more experiences and knowledge, by having the opportunity to be a minor dental
senior assistant and observing his operation closely. It was really a great time for me. Moreover,
in my bachelor’s degree research project, I worked under my supervisor, Dr.Panu Supatraviwat,
and researched about how to develop the training model for enucleation and mandibular
torectomy, which was the first runner-up research award in 2019. My project aimed at the
properties of materials which were similar to the components of the torus mandibularis, gingiva
and oral cysts, and then, created the model for undergraduate dental student to practice in
opening flap, removing bone, enucleating the cyst and suturing prior to the real patient’s
treatment.
After my graduation, I’ve been working on my decisions, without the opinion of the
supervisors, I found the difficulty of some oral surgery minor case such as root tip picking,
complicated wisdom teeth removal, alveoplasty, torectomy, or the treatments with patients who
had underlying diseases, etc. These kinds of operation will not never be operated by
undergraduate students. It makes me realize that these cases are challenging, and I must study
even more. My hospital has the dentists who graduated master’s degree in implantology and
graduated diploma program in periodontology. They suggested that I have the potential to treat
the complicated case, but I have to gain more confidence in treatment and more
knowledge/experiences. I was very happy and grateful to them because I liked the oral surgery
treatments since I was an undergrad student.
When the academic conferences in oral surgery topics were taken place, I would enroll in
to get the updated knowledge. I also had an opportunity to observe the minor surgery cases at
oral and maxillofacial department, Hatyai Hospital, for 2 weeks. I have constantly followed the
news of the post-graduated admission in oral surgery at Prince of Songkla University (PSU) and
I am interested in applying here because it was like my second home, my graduated university.
The professors here are also the top-qualitied and well-known ones. Most of my senior dentists
who graduated from PSU also have a great potential and work with quality treatments.
Finally, I am really interested in the oral surgery treatment. So, to obtain more
experiences and knowledge, to develop my skills and to gain the confidences in treating difficult
minor oral surgery cases as a dentist, I promise to use everything I have learned for the benefit of
mankind.
