LE3: Practice & Reflect I - Reflection Assignment

Practice(s) Implemented
Primary practice: Incorporate research-based study skills.
Secondary practice(s): Use early, ungraded assignments and pre-assessments.

1. Which of the practice(s) shared by the experts and faculty in this module did you
implement?
a. The primary practice implemented in my courses is incorporating research-based study skills.
As a Nursing Instructor, following evidence-based practice is the norm. One study skill I use
with my student is active recall. Active recall results in drastic improvement in performance
as it is an active learning method. I encourage students to create flashcards and concept maps
through their courses.
b. In nursing, the student will see a concept more than one time, and it is beneficial if they have
a place where they can go back to recall the content.

2. How did your use of the practice(s) impact your students or your teaching?
a. As I mentioned before, this practice benefits the student as they will see a concept more than
once, and it is beneficial if they have a place where they can go back to recall the content.
b. The impact occurs as the student has access to this information in a format that is simple to
read and quick to find rather than going back to the online books.

3. What other steps will you take to continue to refine your use of the practices shared in
this module?
a. I will continue to receive input from the students to ensure course accessibility and to hear
what is working and what is not. Also, the course will be updated based on new research
information available.
b. I like to ensure that the tools provided to the students are accurate and easy to use.
