Essay
1.     Explain the role of linguistic context in grammar teaching.

“Teaching grammar as knowledge, linguistic teaching mode emphasizes the dual features
of grammar learning, understanding grammar rules and doing research of implicit grammar
functions. This mode will empower the English learners with the potential and enthusiasm
for inquiry learning and active learning” (https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ1084297.pdf)

Grounded on that perspective and examples like words that are homonyms, using linguistic
context will further expound the meaning of a text which is very important in grammar
teaching. Finding that information very relevant in the process of teaching grammar. There
are instances also that for further expressing an idea grammar on its own is not enough so
we need the use of other techniques such as linguistic context.

To expound further, homonyms as we all know are words having the same physical
structure and pronunciation if used one will have confusion without some linguistic context
or co-text. For example, the word “pupil.” When used with the word “teacher” or “learner” we
will know that it means a student however, when used with the word “dilation” or “iris” we
will know that the word means part of the eye. Therefore, we see that without this
knowledge in teaching grammar there will be misperception.

In conclusion, linguistic context works hand in hand with grammar teaching. They are co-
dependent on each other to do its purpose of elaborating the language better for learners.
