Tagbilaran City's Ticycle Biblical Verses
by junebride

Tagbilaran City has a city ordinance that requires each single tricycle to have in
them painted Biblical quotes and verses. According to the local officials, this is to help
drivers be reminded to always do good while on the street.

While they had the best idea in mind, there were still issues concerning that
specially that the Philippines is a democratic country.

Let's face it, there will surely be drivers who might not be Christians but they are
forced to add these verses or else they'll pay a certain fine or their registrations will be
confiscated.

As a Christian, I like the idea as well as I enjoy reading on each verses and
quotes whenever we are in the city but as a citizen and a lover of democracy, enforcing
this to the extent of charging other non Christian drivers to paint their vehicles with such is I
guess they went overboard. The city government must not generalize, they should or must
give freedom of choice to every citizen.

Also, most tricycle drivers in the city are not even honest when it comes to the
fare. I am a Boholana and I dislike that each driver we get into would charge us Php 60 to
80 from the port to Bohol Quality mall when it is just a a good 5-10 miutes drive.

There were several cases before as well of drivers overpricing us if the

destination is to Island City Mall. And because I am not very familiar with how much it
would cost us to get to this destination and such as well as we don't want to argue, we
usually would just give in. Sometimes I grumble and talk to the driver but most of the time,
it would be hard to negotiate and so we always ended up paying much more than what's
the standard fare or else we would be walking to our destination.

What do you think? Please do watch my vlog here when James and I walked
around Tagbilaran City a week ago.
