Nomenclature:
σy = Minimum yield strength at design temperature
E = Joint Efficiency
S = Allowable stress at design temperature as per ASME Section VIII Div.1.
Sa = Alternate stress for any given of number of cycle s from design fatigue curves
σu = Ultimate strength at design temperature

• “3 SE” must be used instead of “2 σy” when σy/ σu > o.7 and S is governed
by time dependent properties
