Carlos Peña Rómulo was a Filipino diplomat, statesman, soldier, journalist and author. He was a
reporter at 16, a newspaper editor by the age of 20, and a publisher at 32. He was a co-founder of the
Boy Scouts of the Philippines, a general in the US Army and the Philippine Army, university president,
President of the UN General Assembly, and recipient of many honors and honorary degrees. He ends
the article by stating that he will fight to keep his country free just as his ancestors did. I am a Filipino
by Carlos P. Romulo is a beautifully written piece of literary work that expresses the writer’s love and
devotion to his country. He also states that because of the influence of both the east and the west,
the Philippines must wake up and embrace it’s destiny… to met the west (possibly a war). Romulo
