-Florante at Laura is a story about the love and determination of the Duke Florante and
the Princess Laura of Albania while being pursued by the usurper Count Adolfo.
Bob Ong
-Bob Ong is the pseudonym of a contemporary Filipino author known for using
conversational writing technique to create humorous and reflective depictions of
Philippine life. The author's actual name and identity are unknown.
-ABNKKBSNPLAko?! is his first and most popular work. The title is meant to be read
phonetically as "Aba, nakakabasa na pala ako?!", which can be roughly translated as
"Wow, I can actually read now?!" The novel details what are supposedly the childhood
memories of the author, from his earliest days as a student until his first few years at
work.
Jose Rizal
-The country‘s national hero is also known to be one of the greatest writers Philippines
was blessed to have. His writing caused the Filipino people to have the courage to fight
for theirFreedom against the hands of the Spaniards. He was the man behind brilliant
literary outputssuch as Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo which are considered to
be precious treasures of the Philippine Literature.
-Noli Me Tangere is about sweeping and passionate unmasking of the brutality and
corruption of Spanish rule in the Philippines. The plot revolves around Crisostomo
Ibarra, mixed-race heir of a wealthy clan, returning home after seven years in Europe
and filled with ideas on how to better the lot of his countrymen.
-El Filibustirismo It is the sequel to Noli Me Tángere and it addresses topics of great
importance to the movement, namely clerical abuses, racism against the Philippine
people, and the need for political reform. The novels resulted in Rizal's exile to Hong
Kong, and later, his execution by firing squad in 1896 at the age of 35.
Nick Joaquin
-Nicomedes "Nick" Marquez Joaquin was a Filipino writer and journalist best known for
his short stories and novels in the English language. He also wrote using the pen name
Quijano de Manila. Joaquin was conferred the rank and title of National Artist of the
Philippines for Literature.
-Literary prominence, as measured by different English critics, is said to rest upon one
of Nick Joaquin's published books entitled “Prose and Poems” which was published in
1952. Published in this book are the poems “Three Generations”, “May Day Eve”, “After
the Picnic”, “The Legend of the Dying Wanton”, “The Legend of the Virgin Jewel;”, “It
Was Later than we Thought”. Among these, the first of the mentioned written works
were deliberated by editors Seymour Laurence and Jose Garcia Villa as a “short story
masterpiece” (1953). The poem was also chosen as the best short story published in
the Philippine Press between March 1943 and November 1944.
F. Sionil Jose
-Francisco Sionil José was a Filipino writer who was one of the most widely read in the
English language. A National Artist of the Philippines for Literature, which was bestowed
upon him in 2001, José's novels and short stories depict the social underpinnings of
class struggles and colonialism in Filipino society.
-Five of José's works have won the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, his
short stories The God Stealer in 1959, Waywaya in 1979, Arbol de Fuego (Firetree) in
1980, his novel Mass in 1981, and his essay A Scenario for Philippine Resistance in
1979.
-Her best works include Pop Fiction's Mapapansin Kaya?, Every Beast Needs A Beauty,
and the Baka Sakali Trilogy some of which made it to National Book Store’s local fiction
bestseller list.
-She is better known as the HAMBOGest author of Wattpad but is the most humble
author in real life, A Filipino bestselling author of the famous wattpad story “He’s Into
Her” with almost 300 million reads in wattpad for 3 seasons.
-Aside from He’s Into Her 1-3, she also wrote Poser, The Wishful Thinker, Maglaway ka
man sakin, Love Without Limits, and Mr.M.
Lualhati Bautista
-Lualhati Torres Bautista was a Filipina writer, novelist, liberal activist and political
critic. She was one of the primary female writers in the history of contemporary
Philippine literature. Her most popular novels include Dekada '70; Bata, Bata, Pa'no Ka
Ginawa?; and ‘GAPÔ.
