“Hungry students cannot learn”

A lot of students come to school hungry, but are they really learning? A
study was done that revealed hunger affects learning by curbing a child's
physical development, inhibiting their ability to focus and perform, and
limiting their future achievements, additionally, studies show that
hungry students are more likely to have lower grade-point averages,
graduate late, and/or drop out of school when compared to their food
secure peers. The reason is simple, you cannot learn on an empty
stomach. Many students sit through their lunch time at school because
they have no food to eat because they don’t have the money to afford it,
or they are not able to bring food from home for various reasons. This is
why students in public schools should be provided free lunch, they get
more energy to start learning during the day and have enough energy to
finish off the day and rest, they will not doze off in classes because of not
having enough energy from being hungry. The majority of children who
require free lunches come from food-insecure homes. With the changing
economic times, families living below or close to the poverty line have
increased significantly over the years; hence they cannot afford to take
care of their basic needs. Children are delicate, and they should be given
all the necessary support that they need at school, including being
offered free lunch. Hungry children cannot learn efficiently because they
lack the capacity to tolerate the effects of an empty stomach. So yes,
free lunch should be provided for all public school students for them to
perform better in school tasks.
