QUESTION ONE

UNION OF SET
The union of two sets is a set containing all elements that are in A or in B (possibly both). For
example, {1,2}∪{2,3}={1,2,3}. Thus, we can write x∈(A∪B) if and only if (x∈A) or (x∈B).
COMPLEMENT OF SET
The complement of set A is defined as a set that contains the elements present in the universal set
but not in set A. For example, Set U = {2,4,6,8,10,12} and set A = {4,6,8}, then the
complement of set A, A′ = {2,10,12}.
NULL SET
If a set does not contain any element or member then the set is called a null set. Null set is
also called a void set or empty set. The symbol used to represent an empty set is – ϕ ,{}.
Examples: 1) Let A = {x :1 < x < 2, x is an integer } be a null set because there is no integer
between numbers 1 and 2.
