Summary of Game Concept

Working Title of Game: Absence of Summertime

Summary of Game Concept:

(1) Briefly explain the premise of the game – as well as its setting, characters, and story.

(2) Briefly explain the objective of the game – as well as the conflicts that players will

face. (3) Briefly explain how the game is played – as well as the key gameplay features.
Absence of Summertime is a single player, turn-based fantasy Role-Playing Game (RPG) wherein
the player will form a party of four characters to fight enemies, complete missions, and finish the game.
Follow Alexis and Elianna, the protagonists of the game, as they try to discover the truth about the
disturbance of the Summertime Utopia Festival in the Academia.

The main objective of Absence of Summertime is to find the cause of the disturbance that
brought riot to the Summertime Utopia Festival of the Academia of Fantasia. The protagonists of the
game set out on a journey to find the reason of this disturbance and end it.

However, there’s one major conflict that the players will face before finding out the truth of the
disturbance. And that major conflict is fighting opponents and surviving the battles. Players are provided
with missions that they should follow in order to proceed to the next area and make progress with the
overall storyline of the game, and these missions involve fighting enemies.

Absence of Summertime is intended to be released on PC devices. The game fully utilizes the
mouse and its left button to play the game. All of the actions that are implemented in the game are
accessible through the use of clicking it, except for the movements. To move around the area in the game,
use the WASD keys or the Arrow keys, depending on the preference of the player.

The main feature of the gameplay is the turn-based battle system. Players will engage in a turn-
based battle upon clicking on an enemy in the area, wherein they will have to fight waves of enemies.
Players are given the opportunity to initiate an action first. All of the characters in the party will make
their own turn individually. Players have a variety of actions they can perform during a character’s turn.
They may initiate a normal attack, defend, flee the battle, use a special skill, use an ultimate skill, or use
a potion. Players are free to choose which character will initiate an action first, and this choosing of a
character is done by clicking on a character during the turn. Characters can only do an action once per
turn. After the party of the player’s turn, the enemy team will do their own series of attacks.

Key features of the gameplay also include its characters and graphics. The graphics and the
character designs, as well as other objects of the game, are designed with the use of 2D pixel graphics.
We designed the playable characters and other enemies with the use of Pixel Art, to complement and
blend well with the graphics of the game.

Gaming Motivations: List the gaming motivations for your target player persona.

• Discovery. Discover what caused the disturbance in the Academia de Fantasia. Find out why the
disturbance occurred at the most-awaited day of the annual festival, the Summertime Utopia
Festival.
• Fantasy. Explore the world of fantasy with Absence of Summertime. Play as the characters in the
game and utilize the use of magic skills to defeat enemies.
• Story. Follow the story of the game and see the interactions between the characters within the
game. Witness how different each character is to each other through these interactions.
• Power. Strengthen the characters to easily beat the enemies.
• Completion. Complete the missions given by the game and progress through the storyline.
• Excitement. Experience the turn-based battle system of the game and fight to victory.
• Challenge. Try your best to survive the high-level enemies in the high-level areas as you progress
within the game.
Player Experience Goals: List the player experience goal(s) for your target player persona.

• To experience the life of a world with magic. Through the concept of using magic within the
game, we intend to let the players imagine and experience what it is like using magic through
Absence of Summertime. The characters in the game use a variety of unique magic skills, giving
players a look of what it would be like if they themselves can use magic.
• To feel the chaos occurring within the game. We used the dark theme for the overall visual
graphics of our game, to fully express the effect of the disturbance and the chaos it caused within
the world of the game. We used a Chiptune background music that gives off the “night” vibe of the
game, to make the players feel that they are “alone” within the world of the game, that the only
ones surrounding them are the hell creatures. A background music that combines Chiptune and
Rock is used during battles, to express the “danger” of these battles. A more sinister version of the
background music is used to fully express the “high-risk danger” that the players are facing while
fighting the bosses.
• To fight and survive a battle. The game implements the turn-based battle system, and
witnessing how the enemies will attack your characters will give the players the hopes of
surviving the sequence of attacks. As the story progresses, the difficulty of the battles will
increase, making it harder for the players to win each battle.

Structural Elements (Mechanics)

Players: How many players does the game require (or support), and what is the player interaction pattern
(such as: Single Player vs. Game, Player vs. Player, Team vs. Team, etc.)? What role(s) can a player have
within game?

Absence of Summertime requires only one player to play the game. The player may select up to
four characters to form the party they’re going to use to engage in battles. At the start of the game, the
players will be given two characters to form the party. As the game progresses, more characters will be
obtained and become playable.

The player interaction pattern of the game is Single Player vs. Game. A player will form his party,
strengthen the characters in his party, and engage in battles against enemies controlled by the game
system. All of the enemies in this game are controlled by the game system, from the frequency of the
usage of skills to which ally will be attacked by the enemy. There are certain events in the game wherein
a member of the party is controlled by the computer system, like the encounter with Silver in the Festival
District.

The role of the player is to complete the missions provided within the game. By completing the
assigned missions, the player can make a progress to the storyline of the game. It is also the role of the
player to find out the cause of the disturbance occurring in the middle of the Summertime Utopia Festival,
and that is also done by completing the missions. The last role of the player is to defeat enemies, and in
order to defeat these enemies, the player has to strengthen his characters to withstand the prowess of
the enemies and defeat all of them.
Objectives: What is the main objective that the player is trying to achieve in the game? What are the
mini objectives that the player is trying to achieve along the way?

The main objective of Absence of Summertime is to find the cause of the mysterious, sudden
disturbances that was brought upon the premises of Academia de Fantasia. Academia’s long-awaited
annual festival, Summertime Utopia Festival, was invaded by a hoard of hell creatures.

To achieve this end goal of learning the truth about the disturbances, the player has to explore
the whole island of Academia de Fantasia. However, Absence of Summertime isn’t about exploring the
whole area immediately after the game starts. Players will have to meet certain conditions in order to
gain access to all of the areas available within the game before they get to explore it. To gain the right to
access all areas, the game will provide missions to the player. These missions will aid them and guide
them on how they will progress in the game. These missions are connected to the flow of the storyline
of the game, and at the same time will increase the player’s experience on playing this game.

All of the missions in the game involve defeating the hell creatures. For example, in beginning of
the game, the player will meet a man named Mang Romano who luckily survived the attack of the hell
creatures. He will give you a mission, and that mission will be defeating the remaining enemies in the
area. As a reward, Mang Romano will clear out the debris for the party so they can proceed to the next
area. All of the missions after this will be similar, and have one common thing between all of them:
defeating enemies.

Procedures: What actions can the player perform in the game (and what input will the player use for each
action)? Are there special actions that can only be performed under certain conditions? What are the key
procedures that the game system must complete during gameplay (such as controlling enemies, checking
for certain conditions, etc.)?

Absence of Summertime fully utilizes the left button of the mouse and the WASD keys and
Arrow keys. All of the actions implemented within the game are accessible by clicking on the buttons
provided inside the game, except for the movements.

The loading screen will be loaded first upon opening the game. The game provides options that
players can choose from upon opening the game. The first option the New Game option, where players
can start a new game. This option is applicable to all players who are playing the game for the first time.
This starts on the small introduction of the story. Players who want to restart their game progress may
click this option.

The second option is the Load Game option, where players can load their current game progress.
This option loads the recently saved progress of the player in the game. The game provides a Save
option within the game to save the current progress of the player, to ensure players that they can save
the progress they’ve made within the game whenever they want to exit.

The third option is the Settings. The Settings allows the players to adjust the game sound effects,
the background music, and to switch between using WASD keys or Arrow keys for character
movement.

The fourth option will be the Help option. This provides basic information about the game, brief
details about how to play the game, and the rules of the game. This is to teach players who aren’t
familiar with the game the basic actions that they can perform in the game. The Help option will also
serve as a guide for players who may not have any experience playing RPG games, or have no
experience playing computer games at all.
The last option is the Exit option. If the players will exit the game, the game will ask first if they
are sure about exiting the game or not. Clicking the yes option closes the game, while clicking the no
option brings the player back to the loading screen of the game.

Upon loading the game, players are met with the first area of the game (if the player is playing
from the start of the game) or the current area saved by the players. The players may view the status of
their characters on the Characters option. The Character option shows the profile of each character the
players have obtained in the game. The profile provides information about the stats of the character,
their level, and their skills. Here, the player may choose which character to use to move around the
area. By default, the character used to move around is Alexis. We’ve given players the right to choose
which character they’ll use to move around the area. This can be done by clicking the Set as Default
option next to their character’s profile within the Character option. The leveling of stats and skills are
also executed in the Characters option.

The next option will be the Items option. The Items option provides information about the
available potions the players have in their item inventory. These potions are purchasable from NPCs in
specific areas using the gold earned after gaining victory during battles.

The next option will be the Settings. Players may adjust the volume of the sound effects of the
game and the background music, and switch their preferred keys to use for character movement.

The next option is the Save option. The Save option saves the current progress of the players, so
that they can temporarily quit the game without losing the progress they’ve made. Players may load the
current progress by clicking the Load Game option in the loading screen of the game.

The next option is the Map. The Map shows the players their current location, and it shows all
the areas they’ve accessed throughout the game. The map represents the simplified outlook of the
whole island of the Academia de Fantasia.

The last option is the Exit option. The exit option leads the players back to the loading screen of
the game. Upon clicking the exit option, the game will ask the players if they are sure of exiting the
game or not. Clicking the yes option brings them back to the loading screen, while clicking the no
option simply brings the player back to their progress in the game.

Within the game, the players may use their preferred keys (either the WASD keys or the Arrow
keys) to move around the area. Missions will be given to the players in order to proceed, and some of
these missions may involve interacting with Non-Playable Characters (or NPCs) or defeating enemies.
In order to interact with them, the players shall click on the NPC sprites or the enemy sprites using the
left button of the mouse. Clicking on an NPC will initiate a conversation with them, and clicking on an
enemy will initiate battle with them.

The battle system of the Absence of Summertime is turn-based, and the players are given
actions to choose from during their party’s turn. These actions are: Attack, Defend, Flee, Skill, and Item.
By simply clicking on one of these actions, the players may decide which action to take for their
character.

Clicking on the Attack option initiates a Normal Attack against an enemy. However, before
performing the Normal Attack, the players shall choose which enemy to attack. All of the Normal Attack
of playable characters only target one enemy per turn.

The next option is the Defend option. The Defend action simply increases the DEF stat of the
character for one turn, increasing their chance of surviving the next wave of attacks by enemy for one
turn. This option is best to perform if the character’s skills are on cooldown.

The next option is the Flee option. The Flee option simply is an escape out of the battlefield,
giving the win to the enemy immediately. The players do not lose anything upon fleeing the battlefield,
but they will have to repeat their progress on that particular battle until they win. This option is best to
perform when the players know to themselves that they have no chance of winning the battle currently.

The next option will be the Skill option. The Skill option provides the players the available skills
of the character. They may select the available special skill of the character or use the character’s
ultimate skill. These skills have their own cooldown, and players should be wise on using a character’s
skill.

The last option would be the Item option. The players may use an item during the character’s
turn. These items are purchasable from the NPCs in specific areas. The items appear in a variety of
potions: Health Potion, Magic Power Potion, ATK Potion, DEF Potion, Accuracy Potion, and Critical
Chance Potion. Using an item uses up the character’s turn, like the other available actions provided to
players.

Rules: What are the rules of the game? Rules typically do one of these: (1) define key objects or concepts in
the game, (2) limit what the player and other characters can do, or (3) describe the results (rewards,
punishments, etc.) of certain events that occur in the game.

Absence of Summertime may be designed to be an easy turn-based RPG game, but there are certain limitations
and rules to it that makes the game entertaining to play. These rules are:

• Complete the current mission provided by the game. These missions serve as the players’ guide to
progress within the game. If the players will not do any mission at all, no progress in the game will be
made. The next areas are not going to be available for access, and the only option they will have is to
defeat the enemies in the area and the preceding area they already have access on repeatedly.
• Players can only form a party of up to four characters. Any further addition to the party is unfair to
the whole gameplay experience and may not give a challenge to the players. Similarly, enemies can only
have a maximum of five units in their team per wave.
• The enemies respawn whenever players leave the area. When the players proceed to the next area,
the enemies they’ve defeated in the last area will respawn immediately. This excludes the first area
where Mang Romano is, wherein it is part of the game system that no enemies will appear in this area
upon clearing out all the enemies here, as it is a mission by Mang Romano that the players shall clear out
the area to protect Mang Romano and the kids from the hell creatures. This also excludes the bosses
Leviathan and Beelzebub. The respawn system also promotes grinding of EXP and Gold.
• The players should save their progress. The game will not be held responsible when the players lose
their progress in the game. Certain boss battle will force the players to go back to their last saved
progress upon losing the battle, so it is important that the players save their progress whenever they can.
• Upon initiating a battle, characters can only perform one action during their own turn. The
available actions in the game are:
▪ Attack – This action initiates a normal attack. The normal attack animation differs between
characters, but this attack deals low damage. The player has the freedom to choose which enemy
they want to perform this action on.
▪ Defend – This action increases the DEF stat of the character. The defend action gives the
character a higher chance to survive the next incoming attacks of the enemies for one turn.
▪ Flee – This action simply flees the characters away from the battle. Players may use this action if
they can’t beat the enemies.
▪ Skill – The skill action comes with two sections: The Special Skill section and the Ultimate Skill
section. The Special Skill section provides players all the available skills of a character. The
Ultimate Skill section provides players the ultimate skill of the character. Each of the skills have
their own cooldown, and it would be wise to use the skills smartly.
▪ Item – The Item option provides the players the available potions they have in their Item
inventory. They may use this if they want to regain health, increase stats, or revive a character.

• The cooldown of the skills reset upon completing a battle. This allows the player to enter another
battlefield with all of the skills of their characters ready.
• The health of the characters automatically regenerates outside combat. Players do not have to use
potions to heal the characters’ health after a battle. They simply have to wait for the characters’ health to
fill up before entering another battle. Similarly, characters who’ve died during the battle are revived after
the battle. However, they are revived with only 25% of their Health thus having to wait for their health to
fill up automatically outside combat.
• Potions only affect the stats of the character during a battle. The effects of a potion don’t stay outside
combat. This prevents overpowering with stats of a character whenever a player feeds a character with
potions that increases their stats.
• Character level, stats, and skill levels have maximum levels. The maximum level of a character is
Level 40, which players can achieve by fighting enemies. Stats all have a maximum level of 5. Characters
can level up one stat upon leveling up. Similarly, skills and attacks all have a maximum level of 5, too.
Players can also level up one skill upon leveling up.
• Some elements in the game have an elemental reaction. For example, if a character or an enemy is
afflicted with Wet status, players may use characters with Ice Magic or Lightning Magic to initiate
elemental reaction. Using Ice Magic on a character or an enemy afflicted with Wet status freezes them for
at least one turn. Using Lightning Magic on a character afflicted with Wet status electrocutes them,
dealing additional damage. Using Fire Magic on a frozen enemy or character increases the damage dealt
by that character with Fire Magic. Fire Magic also deals additional damage on characters with Nature
Magic. However, Fire Magic is weak against water thus dealing less damage to enemies afflicted with Wet
status. At the same time, Water Magic deals additional damage against characters with Fire Magic. Lastly,
Holy Magic deals additional damage to hell creatures and other enemies affiliated with Dark Magic.

Completing a battle results in victory, earning experience points (EXP) and gold after each completion. If the
players lost, they will be forced to go back to the last progress they have saved in the game.

The game comprises of seven main areas: Festival District, La Fantasia Waterland, Dormitory, Evergreen of
Fantasia, outside and inside of the Campus of Academia de Fantasia, and The Academia Sacred Place. Each of this
area gives out different value of EXP and gold, depending on the difficulty of the area.

Resources: What resources are available to the player (such as: units, lives, time, inventory items, power-
ups, etc.)? How does the player obtain, use, and/or manage each resource?

The players primarily gain Experience

Points (EXP) and Gold by winning in battles. The characters gained in the battlefield accumulate the
EXP and levels them up, while the gold earned is used on purchasing potions from the NPCs.

The game provides stats for the characters available for play in the game:
• Health – The health determines the longevity of a character in the battlefield. The health of a
character is indicated with a health bar above the character’s head during the battle. All
characters will have 100 Health points at the start of the game. Leveling up the Health adds 100
Health points, up to 5 levels.
• Magic Power – The magic power is the power basis of all skills of characters. The innate
prowess of a skill is based on the character’s magic power. All characters will have 50 Magic
Power at the start of the game. Leveling up the Magic Power adds 50 Magic Power, up to 5 levels.
• ATK – The ATK or Attack Power is the basis of damage of normal attacks. However, the damage
of normal attacks is still weaker in comparison to the damage dealt by the skills powered with
magic power. However, an exclusion to this is the one of the protagonists, Alexis. His ATK is
converted into Magic Power upon using skills. All characters will have 50 ATK at the start of the
game. Leveling up the ATK adds 50 ATK, up to 5 levels.
• DEF – The DEF or Defense determines how much a character can survive an attack. This stat
increases the longevity of a character in the battlefield. All characters will have 50 DEF at the
start of the game. Leveling up the DEF adds 50 DEF, up to 5 levels. The exception to this is
Tristian, who has 100 DEF at the start of the game. Minerva, however, starts with 30 DEF.
• Accuracy – The Accuracy stat aids on powering up the damage of a skill. Higher accuracy will
bring greater damage results to enemies. A playable character relies heavily on her accuracy as
primary damage, and that is Joanna. All characters will have 50 Accuracy at the start of the
game. Leveling up the Accuracy adds 50 Accuracy, up to 5 levels. The exception to this is Joanna,
who has 100 Accuracy at the start of the game.
• Crit Chance – The Crit Chance or the Critical Chance also aids on powering up the damage of a
skill. However, the additional damage the critical chance provides is higher than the damage
given by accuracy. All characters will have 50 Crit Chance at the start of the game. Leveling up
the Crit Chance adds 50 Crit Chance, up to 5 levels.

Two points are earned after levelling up. One point is used for upgrading a specific stat, and the other
point is used for upgrading a skill. The Character option will display a unit that indicates how many
points are available to upgrade a stat and a skill. The max levels of both stats and skills are Level 5.

Golds earned in the game can be used to purchase potions. The potions available for purchase in the
game are:
• Health Potion – This potion heals 50% of the character’s Health. It costs 300 gold each.
• Magic Power Potion – This potion increases the Magic Power of the character by 30%. It costs
500 gold each.
• DEF Potion – This potion increases the DEF of the character by 30%. It costs 600 gold each.
• Accuracy Potion – This potion increases the Accuracy of a character by 40%. It costs 800 gold
each.
• Critical Chance Potion – This potion increases the Crit Chance of a character by 40%. It costs
1000 gold each.
• Revive Potion – This potion revives a character and heals them for 25% of their health upon
reviving. It costs 1500 gold each.

Conflict: What are the obstacles, opponents, and/or dilemmas that the player will face in the game? How
can the player avoid, defeat, or resolve each source of conflict?

The main conflict that the players will encounter in the game is the mission that dictates the
player what will they do to progress throughout the game. The only way to resolve this is carry out the
given mission and complete it.

A major conflict in the game is to win the battle against enemies. Naturally, players will be
forced to engage in battles as the mission requires them to do so. And by engaging in these battles, the
characters shall win the battle to complete the mission. Players may avoid battles by not clicking on an
enemy at all, however this will result to no progress made within the game. Players also have the
freedom to flee an on-going battle, and they may try again after they feel like wanting to defeat these
enemies once again.

The next conflict is that all areas have obstacle on the path towards the next area. In the start of
the game, the debris from the destroyed stalls blocks the path to the next area. To remove the debris,
players will have to do Mang Romano’s mission as Mang Romano himself will remove the debris for
you as a reward. Similarly, areas which paths have no obstacle on them are still blocked by the game
system prior to the completion of a mission. Only the mission provided to the players can say when the
next area is available for access.

Boundaries: How is the game world structured? (such as: 2D or 3D; is player’s view top-down, side-view, first
person, etc.; is the game world the same size as player’s view or is it larger; is game one level or multiple
levels; if multiple levels, how are levels different; etc.)

The game world structure of Absence of Summertime is 2D, or specifically, Pixelated 2D. We
used the concept of pixelated art and integrated it onto the design of our game. The players will play
the game on a third-person perspective, witnessing how the characters will interact with enemies and
NPCs. Players will also get to see how the whole sequence of battles will play out in a third-person
perspective.

A map is provided as a representation of the whole outlook of the island of Academia de

Fantasia in simplified form. The Academia de Fantasia consists of seven main areas: Festival District, La
Fantasia Waterland, Dormitory, Evergreen of Fantasia, outside and inside of the Campus of Academia
de Fantasia, and the Academia Sacred Place. Each of this main area consists of 2-3 areas, and each of
this area has the same size as the player’s view.

The levels of the enemies each area differs from each other. The first area, the Festival District,
has enemies with levels ranging from 1-10. The second area, La Fantasia Waterland, has enemies
ranging from levels 10-18. The third area, Dormitory, has enemies ranging from levels 20-23. The
fourth area, the Evergreen of Fantasia, has enemies ranging from levels 24-28. The fifth area, the
outside premise of the campus of Academia de Fantasia has enemies ranging from levels 29-31. The
enemies inside the campus have levels ranging from 32-35. And lastly, the level of the final bosses in
the Academia Sacred Place is Level 40.

Outcome: What can cause the game to end? How does the player win the game and/or how is the
player’s performance measured (such as: score, time, achievements, etc.)?

The battle ends when either the party of the player or the enemy team wins the battle. The only
factor required for the player to win the battle is to wipe out all the enemies during the battle. If that
wouldn’t be met, then the players lose and will have to repeat that battle again to satisfy the
requirements of the mission.

The performance of each character is shown through the measured data of the damage they
have dealt to enemies. This data is shown after winning the battle, along with the EXP and the gold
earned in this battle. This data provides information to the players on which character in their party
deals the most and the least damage. This way, they can assess which characters shall they use on
battles frequently and which characters are only good on certain enemies.
Dramatic Elements (Story)

Challenge: What are the challenges in the gameplay? How will the game’s challenge increase or change as
the player’s skill progresses (in order to help promote flow)?

The main challenge of the player is the waves of the enemies in one battle. Enemies come in
waves during battles, depending on the difficulty of the area. Areas with lower difficulty will have a
maximum of 4 waves each battle, while areas with higher difficulty will have waves of battle of up to 8
waves.

As the players progress throughout the game, they should expect that the difficulties of the
enemies will get harder and the waves of the enemies each area will be more than what they
experienced in the earlier levels.

The number of enemies to clear out in one area is also a huge challenge to players. As the game
progresses, more enemies will appear in each area, and players will be forced to defeat all of them to
complete the mission given to them. And at the same time, the waves in each of those battles will
increase, increasing the difficulty of each battle and making the game more challenging.

Play: What is most fun or engaging about the core gameplay? What choices or freedom do players have in
terms of how they play the game?

The most fun part of the core gameplay is the turn-based battle system. In this turn-based battle
system, players will engage on which enemy to take out first in order to lessen the difficulty of the
battle. Most of the skills provided in each character are single-target, meaning it can only be used on
one selected enemy.

Here, players have the freedom to use which skills they want to use against the enemies.
However, they should mind that these skills have cooldowns and they need to use the skills wisely, so
that they would be able to keep an equal footing with the enemies.

They also have the choice to flee the battlefield and start strengthening their characters on low-
level enemies. This way, they can prepare themselves to face a stronger enemy and defeat them to
proceed.

Premise: What is the main concept driving the game’s action? What is the game’s setting?

Absence of Summertime is a single player, turn-based fantasy RPG game wherein players will
form a party of four characters to initiate battles, defeat enemies, complete missions, and proceed to
the next area.

The setting of Absence of Summertime is based on a fictional remote island in the middle of the
Pacific Ocean, where the school Academia de Fantasia is built on. Academia de Fantasia is the sole
magic academy of the Earth, where all human beings born with magic powers are sent to. They are
taught how to handle their magic powers and use it properly on several occasions, like emergencies
and further research. The Academia is built on a remote island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean to
isolate all the magicians in the academy. This gives them the focus needed to properly mold the
students into excellent magicians. The isolation also prevents humans with no magic power from going
near the school, as the magic power of magicians are fatal to humans who are born with no magic
power.

The current plot of the game focuses on Alexis and Elianna, first year high school students of
Academia de Fantasia. They are excited to celebrate the Summertime Utopia Festival as this will be
their first time to celebrate the awaited annual festival. However, the festival is rather welcomed with
hell creatures invading the premises of the Academia and causing riot to all areas.

The protagonists, Alexis and Elianna, were rather surprised and confused on what is happening
in the Academia. They also discovered that they cannot leave the Festival District due to an invisible
barrier that prohibits them from getting out of the Festival District. This forces the protagonists to fight
enemies and explore the area to find out more about the disturbance, even though they don’t have any

Story: If the game has a story (beyond just a premise), provide more details about the narrative and how
it unfolds within the game.

Thousands of years ago, the island of Academia de Fantasia was once known as the Island of
Fantasy. It was named the Island of Fantasy because no humans knew what goes on in this island,
because they cannot go near this island due to the nature of the waters surrounding the island. Humans
back then assumed and created stories and myths regarding the mystery of the island, hence the name
Island of Fantasy.

The reality is, the Island of Fantasy was the battlegrounds of demons and gods, who are fighting
against each other to determine who will conquer the human world and govern above them. The war
between them occurred here so that they will not be able to cause trouble to humans, whom they
viewed back then as valuable slaves.
One day, a Lesser Water God blessed a human kid named Antimony with magic. He was the first
human in history to wield magic, something humans can’t possibly do. Antimony grew up and became
what people would call the “Hero” of their era. He was called the Hero because he was the first human
to set foot on the Island of Fantasy and provide the real information about it.

Soon, with the appearance of a human who can wield magic, the demons and the gods halted
their war and made a peace pact with Antimony. The gods blessed humans with the ability to wield
magic. However, only some humans were compatible with magic. The demons also granted magic to
other humans, but only few people were compatible with Demon Magic, up to the current era. They are
very rare.

However, the promised peace to the humans came with a great sacrifice: Antimony himself shall
offer a human to the gods and demons in the island. The chosen human will be executed in front of the
demons and gods as part of offerings towards them. It was a cruel decision Antimony made to protect
the mankind from the greediness of the gods and the demons. And that exact place is the Academia
Sacred Place. Following the events of the peace pact, Antimony is crowned the King of the Humans.

The true nature of the Summertime Utopia Festival is to sacrifice a human, particularly a student
of the Academia de Fantasia, and offer them to the gods and demons to keep the pact and deliver peace
to the mankind.

All of the information regarding the truth of the Summertime Utopia Festival will be revealed to
the characters at the end of the game when Cristine and Rhian will reveal themselves as the culprit
behind the disturbances in the Academia.

Back to the present timeline, the game will start with Alexis and Elianna. They are excited to
have fun in the Summertime Utopia Festival, because it was their first time celebrating the festival and
it was popular for being the best festival celebrated in the whole world.

However, upon arriving in the Festival District, the protagonists are rather welcomed with hell
creatures who’ve caused riot to the district. The protagonists attempted to escape, however there
seems to be an invisible barrier that blocks the path that leads to the outside of the District. Here, the
protagonists decided to explore the district in order to learn more about the disturbances.

The mission will ask the players to interact with Mang Romano, an owner of the Takoyaki stall
in the District. Mang Romano survived by hiding behind another stall. He will ask you to defeat the
remaining enemies in the area in order to provide a safe place for the children who visited the District.
As a reward, Mang Romano himself will clear the debris out for the players. This debris blocks the path
to the next area.

In the next area, you will be given a mission wherein you’ll interact with a shop owner named
Melinda. But first, you will meet Silver along the way and acquire him in the party. Melinda seems to be
safe from the hell creatures because she claims that her Holy Magic keeps the creatures away from her,
in which Elianna, who wields Holy Magic herself, doubts the claim as she herself is using Holy Magic yet
she engages on battles with the hell creatures. Melinda will give you a mission to beat Cerberus, the
boss of the next area. Her reward for this is that she will open a path to La Fantasia Waterland. For the
meantime, the players may purchase potions from her store.

The next area will be the La Fantasia Waterland, the Waterland of the Academia which is
powered by Leviathan’s Water Magic. Leviathan is a professor in the Academia de Fantasia, and is one
of the most powerful Water Mages in the Academia. She is the facilitator of the La Fantasia Waterland,
yet she’s not on the scene. In La Fantasia Waterland, the players will encounter Nico, a student who
almost lost his life fighting against the Single Hydra. Thanks to the party, they defeated the Single Hydra
and acquired Nico in the party.
When the players access the third area of the Waterland, they will be given a mission to clear out
the area. Unknown to the player, the boss of this area is hiding in one of them. And that boss is no other
than the facilitator of the Waterland, Leviathan. However, Leviathan prefers not to speak regarding the
disturbances and only fights the party. If the party lost the battle, all enemies defeated in the area will
reset, including the progress in the current mission. Leviathan would still appear among the enemies
randomly. If the players won against Leviathan, Leviathan will send all the characters to the Dormitory.

Upon waking up in the Dormitory, the characters will hear a scream coming from the next area
in the Dormitory. There, they will meet the Grim Reaper who took the popular students, Rhian and
Cristine, as hostages. The player will have to save both Rhian and Cristine by defeating the Grim Reaper
and acquire both Rhian and Cristine in the party.

The next area to be accessed is the Evergreen of Fantasia. The Evergreen of Fantasia, famous for
its purely green trees and plants, is now covered in all pink with Sakura Trees. The characters
wondered how the Evergreen became a forest of Sakura Trees. Here, they will encounter Minerva, who
was unconscious and tied on a tree.

The characters attempted to free Minerva from being tied, however a barrier is protecting
Minerva from outside interferences. The party decided to explore the area more in hopes to finding a
way to free Minerva from being tied.

There, they meet Beelzebub, a professor in the Academia. He reveals that he himself is merely a
pawn in the disturbance and only wants to see his “garden”, the Evergreen of Fantasia, in bright pink
colors. He is so obsessed with the Sakura Trees that he abducted his student Minerva and used her to
power the whole Evergreen of Fantasia, turning all of the trees here into Sakura Trees.

After defeating Beelzebub, the characters may now free Minerva from being tied on the tree and
acquire her on the party. The next area after the Evergreen of Fantasia is the outside of the campus of
Academia de Fantasia.

The outside of the campus is filled with low-ranking demons. While exploring the area, the
characters will encounter Joanna, who saved Alexis from being attacked by a low-ranking demon. Here,
she joins the party as a playable character. The boss in this area is the Summoner, a high-ranking
demon. The players will have to defeat the Summoner in order to enter the building of the Academia.

The inside of the Academia is filled with high-ranking demons. Inside the building, they will
meet Tristan, a third-year high school student of the campus. Tristan is strong enough to fight alone
against high-ranking demons. He will also join the party and accompany you to the last area, the
Academia Sacred Place.

In the Academia Sacred Place, Cristine and Rhian will reveal themselves as the culprit behind
the disturbances around the island. Unknown to the player and the characters, it’s already decided that
the sacrifice for that year is Alexis, whom Rhian claimed to have alarming similarities with the former
King of the Humans, Antimony. Rhian stabbed Alexis, though Alexis was immediately rescued by
Elianna, who can use Holy Magic to heal her allies.

Upon winning against Cristine and Rhian, both of them will reveal that all people involved in the
Summertime Utopia Festival will have their memories erased. All the people injured and the people
who died will be revived. The day will continue as if nothing occurred in that day. The Summertime
Utopia Festival will be celebrated, and Cristine and Rhian themselves stated that they will hang out as
friends and enjoy the festival together with Alexis and the party.
Rhian, however, warned Alexis that the eyes of the demons and gods are set on him and he
should be prepared to be hunted by them. This concludes the whole story of the game.

Artistic Elements (Aesthetics)

Visual Aspects: What will be the overall visual style of the game? What kind of color scheme, graphics, and
animations will the game have? What information will the game’s user interface display to the player (such
as: score, status, etc.)?

The overall visual style of the game is 2D pixelated graphics. We designed everything in the
game, mostly the characters including the playable characters, the non-playable characters, and the
opponents, to have a pixelated art style. We intend to use darker colors and shades as the color theme
of the game, to fully express the chaos occurring within the world of the game.

The simple animation that the characters will have in the game is walking. However, the priority
of the animation is the execution of the skills during gameplay. We intend to create a unique animation
for every normal attack and skills of each character in the game, including the skills of the opponents.
The details of how each skill will look like when executed is provided within the game.

The game’s user interface will display information related to the characters’ information, the
items, and the details of the map. The Character option, when clicked, will display each of the
character’s information. It will show the character’s current stats and levels, as well as the description
of each skills of the allied characters.

During the battle, the user interface will display the available actions that the player may choose
to execute for each character. For every attack or skill used, the game will show the user the damage
dealt to each other in the form of numbers. Additionally, there’s a health bar above the character’s head
to indicate their remaining health.

Most of the actions will all be displayed in the form of text, so that players will find it easy to
choose which action to perform during their character’s turn.

At the end of the battle, the interface will display the damage dealt by each character in the
party. It will also display the amount of EXP and Gold gained each battle. Players may check the
progress of the EXP of their characters in the Character option and see if they are close to reaching the
next level.
Audio Aspects: What kinds of sound effects, music, or other audio will the game have? When will each
sound occur?

The game will primarily use the Chiptune, also known as 8-bit music, as the background music
of the whole game. We intend to compose the Chiptune BGM that will give nighttime vibes within the
game, to give players the silent ominous feel that the disturbance brought in the supposed to be bright
day of the festival. We also intend that with this BGM, the players will get the feeling of being “alone”
within the world of the game. The visual of the game will be more accustomed to dark themes, to fully
express the disturbance occurring within the world of the game.

Next, we intend to compose a BGM that combines Rock and Chiptune during the battles in the
game. We decided to go with the rock genre to fully express the chaotic vibe of the disturbance
occurring in the game, especially when the players engage in fights with enemies. Through this BGM,
we would like the players to feel that the battles they are engaged with are indeed “dangerous”. We
combined the rock tune with Chiptune to fit the pixelated graphics of the game.

A more sinister version of the BGM will be played during boss fights. The intention of making it
sinister is to give the “highly dangerous” feeling to the players, that their characters are in high-risk
danger dealing with these powerful enemies. The exception of this is the battle against Leviathan,
whose role in the game is to surprise the enemy with her appearance in one of the battles. In case of
Leviathan’s appearance, the regular BGM that plays during normal battles will be played to give players
the “surprise” effect.

Kinesthetic Aspects: How will the game use visual effects, sound effects, and game physics to provide a sense
of physicality to the gameplay?

The game will make use of the animation of all attacks and skills used during battle. For
example, if the character stabs an enemy, the game will show the actual stabbing, and blood would
appear as a reaction to the stabbing. The same goes when the players use skills to the target enemy. If,
for example, an enemy is hit by an attack or a skill, they will flinch as a reaction towards the attack.
However, since most of the skills are powered by magic, no actual visual effect will be shown when a
character or an enemy is burned, drown in water, or flown away by air. However, there will be a visual
effect whenever a character is frozen or electrocuted.

The game makes full use of the sound effects whenever an action is performed. For example,
footsteps can be heard when the character walks around the area. During the battle, the game will
provide sound effects for each skill and attack. For example, if the character stabs an enemy, it will
produce a stabbing sound. Or if there is a wave of water flooding the screen, a sound of flooding will be
heard. We intend to integrate all of the possible sound effects the skills of each character may produce.
The most basic example would be a skill involving a scream, wherein the game will play a screeching
sound whenever a skill involving a scream is used. We believe that this will give the players a more
realistic feel when playing the game, giving them the sense of physicality while playing a fantasy RPG
game.
Concept Sketches: Insert labeled photos or scans of concept sketches for:

(1) game world – example screen view including layout of user interface information displayed to player
(score, status, etc.), plus possible map of entire level (if it extends beyond screen)

(2) characters – player’s character, non-player characters (opponents, allies)

(3) key game objects – such as resources, etc. (if not already shown in other sketches)

This is the opening interface displayed on the player’s screen upon opening the game.

This is the rough sketch of area displayed on the player’s screen upon loading the game.
Here, the displayed information first is the Mission. The mission here is to clear all the enemies in the area.

The total amount of gold earned by the player is displayed here, too.

The options Character, Items, Settings, Map, Save, and Exit are displayed here too. By using this rough sketch, we
intend to implement the interface displayed on the players’ screen upon loading the game with the use of the 2D
Pixel Graphics.

This is a sketch of how the battlefield in the game would look like. Here, the actions Attack, Defend, Flee, Skill,
Item, Settings, and Exit are displayed.

The character sprite of Alexis on the left side shows that it is his current turn. Under the sprite, it shows how
much his current Health is. The red lines above all the character's head symbolizes the health bar.
This is the rough sketch of the map of the island. Players may see how many areas each main area covers. This
can be accessible by simply clicking the Map option.

These are the final pixelated art model of the playable characters:

Alexis Elianna

Cristine Joanna

Minerva Nico
Rhian Silver

Tristan

These are the final pixelated art model of the non-playable characters:

Melinda Mang Romano

Lusita Rosaria
Some enemies have their own final pixelated art model:

Leviathan Beelzebub

Incubus Succubus

However, some enemies still don't have their final pixelated art. Instead, we have made sketches of the concept
of their models. These models are what we're going to use when we'll fully implement all enemies in pixelated
art style.

The model types of the demons in the game

Daisy Hydroblossom

Frozen Rose Snake

This is the displayed information whenever the player decides to use a skill in the battle.
The list of all the skills of a character are displayed here. In this example, we've used Alexis' skill set. Players may
simply click on the name of the skill to use it. The numbers next to it indicates the cooldown. If the number next to
it is zero, then the skill is free to use. If not, then it's still on cooldown. The skills with strikethrough are skills that
aren't unlocked by the player yet.

Similarly, that's how the item inventory during the battle would look like too. We can see in the image below, only
the Health Potion and Magic Power Potion are in the item list. Because these are the only potions that the player
currently has in-game. The number next to each potion indicates how many potions are available each category.

Lastly, this is the closer look to what the interface would look like if the player selects the Character option and
checks the information of a character. All of the stats of the character are displayed, the character's health and exp
are displayed here, too. Here, players may set their preferred character as their default character while walking
the areas of the game. Players may also level up a character’s skills and stats here, too.
