Plan of Investigation

The topic my group choose to do is ‘Gaming’ which falls under the theme ‘Technology’. This
investigation aims to explore ‘The elements of gaming’. My main reason for choosing this sub-topic is
because I want to understand how to make a game by understood ‘The elements of gaming’. This
investigation aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of ‘The elements of gaming’. The main
source of information I will use will come from google.com and its various sub-sites. At the end of our
SBA we will ensure you understood how gaming impacted our lives in various ways.
Reflection 1
The first artifact shows pictures of five elements of gaming that the researcher
had choose to explain which consists of: Conflict, Rewards and Goals, Aesthetics,
Story and Theme, and finally Strategy and Chance. Before the SBA, the researcher
wanted to make a game but hadn’t know what elements a game need and how to
identify them. The main idea of the artifact is to give an insight of what the
elements of gaming are.
For the second artifact, the researcher chose an article that explains the five
elements of gaming mentioned in artifact one. The article is titled ‘Five Game
Elements That Creates Effective Learning Games’ on elearningindustry.com. The
article gives a brief explanation of the five elements of gaming. After reading the
article the researcher had begun to understand what each element meant and
how important they are.
In the third artifact, a game titled ‘Pokèmon: FireRed’ was chosen as an example
of a game with the five element of gaming this artifact was chosen because the
researcher ad played the game before starting the SBA and knew how good of an
example it was for his sub-topic.
Reflection 2
The language was formal in the picture and was written so that anyone can
understand it. This was instrumental for me because it helped me learn some
editing skills and understand how to identify elements of gaming.
In the article the language use was very formal and well written so that anyone
can understand it. For example, it gave an introduction and a conclusion. This was
very instrumental to me because it helped me to understand what the five
elements of gaming are. Because of the vocabulary that was well written, I was
able to understand the article.
The language used in the game was formal and written perfectly as it was a story
game. The dialogues in the game was very interesting, giving a comedic and
drama vibe.
Reflection 3
This SBA has made me a better person by helping me to work more effectively in
groups and improved my English skills. It had also helped me gain new
knowledge. The process of carrying out this SBA was not easy but difficult, it took
a lot of time and research to put everything together.
Working in groups is a good trait to possess as it helps improve teamwork. It was
easy to cooperate with my fellow group members and they helped me
understand things that I didn’t and the same can be said for them. I had also
obtained better English skills throughout the SBA because I learnt many new
words and improved my vocabulary in the process.
