METHODOLOGY

Research Design

The research design the will be used in this study is Completely Randomized

Design (CRD). The experiment will be involved in two treatments, each treatment will be

replicated two times. To easily determine the difference and test the hypotheses, both

Banana Pseudo-Stem Decorative paper and Coconut Husk Decorative paper will

undergo water absorbancy as physical test. It will differ in the amount of water and

those are 5ml and 10ml.

Banana Pseudo-Stem

The Banana Pseudo-Stem that will be used in making the decorative paper will

come from brgy. Alumbrado Nagcarlan, Laguna that will be provided by the researcher.

The baking soda that will be used to soften the Banana Pseudo-Stem will come from

sari-sari store in Rizal Laguna. In order to make the decorative paper, first cut the

Banana Pseudo-Stem into smaller pieces to make it easier to boil. About 40g of Banana

Pseudo-Stem was used. Ready the pot and water and bring it to boil. The water must

be more than the amount of Banana Pseudo-Stem. Then put the Banana Pseudo-Stem

and boil it for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, add 25g of baking soda to soften the

Banana Pseudo-Stem. Then boil the Banana Pseudo-Stem in baking soda for another

20mins. Ready the mortar and pestle and flatten the Banana Pseudo-Stem. To extract

its fiber, put the flattened Banana Pseudo-Stem in tap water. Prepare 7 tbsp of

cornstarch and 1ml of hot water to create a slurry. Mix the slurry with the Banana

Pseudo-Stem fiber and let it dry in a piece of fabric cloth for more than 48 hours or 2

days.

Coconut Husk

The Coconut Husk that will be used to make the decorative paper will come from

brgy. Alumbrado Nagcarlan, Laguna. The baking soda that will be used to soften the

coconut husk will come from sari-sari store in Rizal Laguna. In order to make the

decorative paper, first, peel the coconut husk and cut it into tiny pieces. Prepare a pot

and water then bring it to boil. After boiling, put the coconut husk and boil it for 10

minutes. After 10 minutes, add 25g of baking soda and boil it for another 20 minutes.

Ready the mortar and pestle for the fibers to shown more and to extract the fibers, mix

the slurry with the coconut husk fiber and put it in tap water.
