IN THIS TIME OF THE PANDEMIC WHICH TYPE OF MEDIA IS

SEVERELY AFFECTED IN TERMS OF REACH TO ITS AUDIENCES?

WHAT ARE THE THINGS THEY DID TO OVERCOME THESE
CHALLENGES? CITE CONCRETE REASONS OR EXAMPLES ON HOW
THEY MADE THE MOVE TO SURVIVE THIS PANDEMIC SEASON?

The COVID-19 pandemic is causing havoc in every industry. The coronavirus

creates both opportunities and challenges for the media industry. On the one
hand, social distancing has increased at-home media consumption, and an
increasing number of people are turning to news providers for timely and
trustworthy information about the crisis. At the same time, some of the most
valuable broadcast content, such as live sports, is being postponed or
canceled, causing advertisers to reallocate their spending and media
companies to lose money. Although the current disruption is unprecedented, the
media industry has been upended numerous times before. Digitization of
content, the rise of social media, and the acceleration of mobile consumption
have all forced changes in the way media companies monetize content since
the turn of the century.

Print media have been severely affected the most because people are confined
in their homes with only a few being able to buy physical copies of news like
newspapers or brochures which is the primary medium for different companies
to post their stories or information. However, companies and publishers have
adopted the new normal by offering online subscriptions and posting news on
social media. Print media has not become obsolete in fact it is highlighted in
this world where misinformation and fake news spread because of a digitized
world.

Manila Bulletin has its own website and you receive your own digital newspaper
if you subscribe to their subscriptions. Rappler became creative and made their
own short explainer videos posting them on social media, especially on TikTok
and Facebook where they can garner many followers and views. And still able
to post their news that could have been in newspapers.
