Title : Industrial pollutions causes, effects and, their remedies.

Abstract :The Basic concepts of Industrial Pollution is the contamination of the physical and
biological components of the earth and atmosphere into such an extent that normal environmental
processes are Pollution starts contaminating the environment by very much affected. Any unwanted
and harmful affluents released by industries into the environment is industrial pollution
Industries cause all types of pollutions which includes air, land, water, sound etc. Here I will
discuss about very shortly the causes, effects and remedies of industrial pollution.

Introduction : Ever since the Industrial Revolution in the 1700s and 1800s, the effects of the
industries have been seen throughout the Earth. The effects of industries are myriad because they
are of all kinds and each has various processes that take place in each of them. Bangladesh is
predominantly an agricultural country. But In several decades the industrialization is rising
rapidly. The environmental contamination problem in Bangladesh is being increased and
sophisticated due to rapid industrialization without concerning environment policy of
government. A lot of pollution is caused by industries and there are a many causes behind it.
Industrial wastage flows into water bodies which causes water contamination. Harmful gases
expelled from industry and motor vehicle spread out into air which causes air pollution. Coal
power plants emits major greenhouse gas into atmosphere which causes heating the planet and
plays a vital rule to world climate change.

MATERIALS AND METHODS :

The article based on the qualitative and descriptive research approach for gathering and
analyzing data. The data obtained for research purposes and review of the articles collected
through secondary sources from published research papers, journals and the internet. Industrial
Sector in Bangladesh: Bangladesh’s industrial sector consists of small, medium, and large
units having new and old technology. Most industries situated in urban areas, include cities
like Dhaka, Chittagong, Gazipur, Narayanganj. But there are no treatment facilities available in
all these cities that are grossly responsible for environmental degradation. Following are
some sub industrial sectors of Bangladesh:
a) Textile
b) Cement
c) Pharmaceutical
d) Leather
e) Dyes and fibers
f) Steel mills
g) Mining industries
h) Oil
i) Paper
j) Dairy
k) Garments
The Main Causes Of Industrial Pollution Are:
Vulnerable law enforcement of government to control pollution– many industries violate the laws
of industrial pollution made by the policy maker because of lack of effective policies and low
enforcement. This is generally occurred to eliminate the higher costs of disposing wastes correctly or
installing waste treatment facilities.

Unplanned industrial growth– As development and economic growth takes precedence over
environmental or health concerns, rules and norms are flouted causing unplanned growth of
industries.

Presence of large number of small scale industries– These usually don’t have enough capital
and rely on government grants to run their day to day business. When they are classified as
small scale, they do not have too many regulations to follow and hence end up releasing more
toxins /wastes into the environment. Toxic chemicals used by industries in processing and
manufacturing are the biggest contributors to industrial pollution.

Ineffective waste disposal–The industrial waste stream contains numerous chemical

substances that are defined in terms of reactivity, ignitability, toxicity and corrosivity. The
waste generated is always somewhat hazardous and coupled with the lacking waste
management systems, the environment is periodically exposed to high scores of industrial
waste pollution.

Effects of Industrial Pollution on Our Environment

1. Water Pollution :The effects of industrial pollution are far-reaching and liable to affect the
ecosystem for many years to come. Most industries require large amounts of water for their
work. When involved in a series of processes, the water comes into contact with heavy metals,
harmful chemicals, radioactive waste, and even organic sludge.

3. Air Pollution :Air pollution has led to a steep increase in various illnesses, and it continues to
affect us on a daily basis. With so many small, mid and large scale industries coming up, air
pollution has taken a toll on the health of the people and the environment.

4. Wildlife Extinction :By and large, the issue of industrial pollution shows us that it causes
natural rhythms and patterns to fail, meaning that the wildlife is getting affected in a severe
manner. Habitats are being lost, species are becoming extinct, and it is harder for the
environment to recover from each natural disaster.
5. Global Warming :With the rise in industrial pollution, global warming has been increasing at
a steady pace. Smoke and greenhouse gases are being released by industries into the air, which
causes an increase in global warming.Ways to Control or Reduce Industrial Pollution

The issue of industrial pollution is critical to every nation on the planet. With the increase of the
harmful effects of industrial pollution, there are many agencies and individuals who are working
to reduce carbon footprints and live and work in an eco-friendly way. Many steps can be taken to
seek permanent solutions to the problem.

1. Source Control :Adopting new technology, efficient training of employees for safe use and
development of better technology for disposal of waste, and being more conscientious about the
use of raw materials can help control industrial pollution at the source.

2. Recycling :Recycling as much polluted water in the industries as possible by increased

recycling efforts to reduce industrial pollution.

3. Industry Site Selection: Consideration of location of the sites and the potential impact on the
surrounding environment can help reduce harmful consequences.

4. Proper Treatment of Industrial Waste :By developing and implementing adequate

treatment facilities for handling industrial waste and proper habits can reduce pollution.

5. Rebuilding Habitats and Afforestation :Rebuilding habitats by planting more trees and
plants can help give wildlife back their homes, and the trees can help purify the air with enough
oxygen, and act as a buffer against the environment.

6. Stricter Laws and Enforcement :The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) works to
correct the damage from industrial pollution. There should be more stringent rules to take action
against the companies who do not follow proper protocol and more significant rewards for the
companies who operate properly. It requires creating policies that prevent misuse of land.

Environmental policy also presents the following recommendations:

a).Regulatory system should be strengthening.

b).Effective control and monitoring system must be ensured.
c).Training and management policies for industry owners and workforce.
d).Strengthening of environmental protection policies.
e).Establishment of wastewater and solid waste management system
f).Green belt must be created through plants.
g).Awareness campaigns must be established among workers.
h).Better drainage and disposal system must be established.
i).Devising a strategy for uniform control and reporting system
j).Awareness training of human resources.
k).Providing knowledge and effluents treatment facilities to control pollution
l).A comprehensive program for implementing environmental regulation
m).Integrated environmental infrastructure for better management of industrial waste.
n).Stimulate corporate responsibility for preserving natural resources.

Conclusion : Industrial pollution has an adverse impact on environmental biotic and a-biotic
factors. Due to the presence of harmful chemicals and pollutants, it contaminates all the
natural resources air water, and soil. When these pollutants and harmful chemical come in
contact with humans, various health-related issues are created such as respiratory, nervous,
digestive disorders. There is an urgent need for the awareness of pollution and a uniform
management and administration system in Pakistan to address this issue. Policymakers and
environmental protection agencies need to pay attention to this grave issue and must save the
country from the harmful effects of pollution. The findings of the study provide information to
implement such policies and practices that can preserve the environment from harmful
hazards. Regulatory bodies must show their concern and response to the harmful impact
of the industrial sector.

DISCUSSION
The study focuses on various industrial solution impacts on the environment and society. Heavy
duties are imposed on an industrial sector to reduce their industrial effluents that pollute the
environment day by day. The study found that in our society there is no formal
management and administration system to recall this issue yet. As the industrial sector is the
major consumer of natural resources, but this sector is also a major pollutant factor of the
environment. Industries have environmental responsibilities to certain contexts such as
their level of operations, production techniques, plant sites, location, noise and waste control,
disposal system, drainage system, safety, and health concerns. A lot of attention is needed to
be paid to all these factors. It is a major threat to both developed and underdeveloped
countries. The need for pollution control practices became apparent due to dynamic
environmental conditions now a day. Global warming, greenhouse effect, gradual shifts of
seasonal change are a serious threat to the world today. Results of the study show that
industrial harmful effluents have an adverse impact on the environment and socio-
environmental condition as well as it has become a threat to human health and safety.
