For larger heads increase Rnd 23 at *10 SC, 2SC* around for one more row then continue in
rounds until hat measures 8” – 8.5”.
Earflaps
Lay hat flat on hard surface with the tie off in the center of the back of the hat. Count 3 stitches
in from the sides of each side and place a marker. If you don’t have stitch markers, you can use
a piece of yarn.
Left earflap
With right side facing, opening at the top, attach trim color to the spot at the left side stitch
marker.
Row 1:
14” – 16” & 16” – 18” CH1, 8 SC, CH 1, Turn
18” – 20” CH 1, 10 SC, CH 1, Turn
20” – 22” CH 1, 12 SC, CH 1, Turn
Row 5: SC Dec first 2 SC, SC in next 4, 6, or 8 SC, SC Dec last 2 SC, CH 1, turn.
Row 9: SC Dec first 2 SC, SC in next 2, 4, or 6 SC, SC Dec last 2 SC, CH 1, turn. (4, 6, 8 SC)
Row 11: 1 SC in 1st SC, SC Dec next 2, 1 SC in last SC. (3, 5, 7 SC)
Row 12: SC in each SC across, for 14” – 16” and 16” – 18” sizes Fasten off. For 18” – 20” and
20” – 22” continue to next row.
Row 13:
For 18” – 20” SC DEC first 2 SC, SC in next SC, SC DEC last 2 SC, Fasten off. (3 SC)
For 20” – 22” SC DEC first 2 SC, SC in next 3 SC, SC DEC last 2 SC (5 SC)
Row 14: SC DEC first 2 SC, SC in next SC, SC DEC last 2 SC, Fasten off. (3 SC)
Right earflap
With right side facing, opening at the top, count to the right the stitch marker the number of
stitches required for the size you are making and attach yarn.
With Trim color, attach yarn with a single crochet in the center of the back of the hat. 1 SC in
each SC and in the row ends of the earflaps, SLST to join, Fasten Off.
SWIRLS
With Trim color, using surface stitch, surface stitch the swirls in any design you like. For
