0 INTRODUCTION
Marketing is the process of talking your products (Poultry products like Eggs, Manures and
Culled birds mostly found in Layer production and then Broilers) to the end users (Consumers).
Marketing is a term that covers a whole gamut of activities aiming to make people aware of
your products and services and persuade them to buy the same. Market facultations will equip
poultry producers with knowledge and skills in order to enhance commercialization. The
following are considered,

1.) Consumers preferences: What does your end users want?.

2.) Distribution: How does your products reach the end users? Timely and quality maintained.

3.) Promotion: How dose your customers know about your products? You look for the
customers and not the customers looking for you.

4.) Prices: How do you set prices for your products? Compare with others but remain
profitable.

1.1 OBJECTIVE OF SELLING POULTRY BIRDS AND ITS PRODUCTS


 Providing customers with a fresh product in aspects of culled birds, Broilers and then its
products.
 Providing poultry products at lesser rate in order to be able to be purchased by people
wirh financial issues.
 Reduction of hunger rate in the society by the production of food (Meat).
 To know the demand for poultry? The discrepancy between production and
consumption has driven demand for poultry meat from 69 million metric tons in 2001 to
almost 128 million metric tons in 2021 (Updated as at 1st August, 2022).
 To know if there's a section of the market meant for the sales and purchase of poultry
birds?. The poultry market is positioned as one of the most important sectors globally
due to its participation in the world's food security and its leading role in international
markets (Updated as at 13th May 2022).

Poultry products are known to have high nutritive value to the human body. The meat of
poultry is high in nutritional value and if the skin is removed prior to consuming, it is low in
saturated fat as well. The light meat from the breast area tends to be lower in fat than darker
meat from the thighs and drumsticks. Sales on such products can fetch good amount of income
and then in return provide the consumers with good health, therefore making it a win-win
situationfor both the farmers and the customers.

proves to be an effective tool. Customers can be engaged by telling them what they do not
know and creating good content around your products and services.

2.1 SELLING FORMS OF POULTRY BIRDS AND ITS PRODUCTS


One of the fascinating reasons why going into poultry production or farming is highly adviced is
that, apart from the birds which the farmers will gain from, he or she can also gain some other
benefit like its products such as Eggs, Manures and the Feathers. The following are the different
forms of selling your poultry birds and its products.

1.) Live chicken (Pertaining to birds that are still alive and in selection, they should be well
frathered.).

2.) Whole chicken (Pertaining to birds that are no longer alive, been strangled before sales or
head cut off).

3.) Dressed chicken (Pertaining to slaughtered birds).

3.) Drawn chicken (Pertaining to birds where the visceral organs and head removed).

Layers production is highly necessary, egg's usually sell for somewhere between #1,200 up to
#2,000 depending on the grading. Yet, the price you charge will rely on your costs. You’ll need
to measure your feed expense first and then set your pricing.

 SELL FERTILE EGGS FOR HATCHING

Along with your fresh eggs, you can also sell fertile eggs for hatching. These kinds of eggs but
are challenging to produce compared to fresh eggs. To make fertile eggs, you need to select a
high-quality, popular chicken breed.

 SELL ADORABLE CHICKS

Farmers markets always welcome people selling their fresh produces. Sometimes, the
participation and registration are fee-based in these markets. Another issue is that eggs and
chickens are not usually distinctive at a farmer’s market. You have to be resourceful and
creative to get attention about chicken handling. Unfortunately, special meals and competing
with larger farms can be costly.

Flea markets provide a greater variety of goods and their primary draw is inexpensive pricing.
You can find less marketing of other chicken goods in flea markets. But there’s more marketing
of live chickens, though, in this market.

 RESTAURANTS

Some people want to sell but are not interested in setting up and maintaining a market booth.
So, these individuals or groups may sell to restaurants or local shops. The packaging of your
goods is essential. You can also get official labels like USDA for cage-free or organic
accreditation. But the brand can also have a significant effect on the amount retailers prepared
to pay for goods.

 ONLINE MARKETPLACE OR GROUPS

Establishing an online shop enables you to market your goods more effectively. Convey
information in a straightforward method. It’s by telling a narrative about your products or by
using videos and photographs. dditionally, social media may assist in spreading the news about
your products. And of course, your postings should have specific details of your products.

 THROUGH YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES

You may sometimes find it embarrassing to ask a little favor from them, but it’s not. It’s not

looking for poultry products or suppliers is a little thing. This selling technique is only up to you.

D.) Inadequate credits facilities: Financial institutions consider poultry farming to be high risks.

E.) Unavailability of processing facilities: Slaughter birds and egg processing units.

F.) Lack of business management skills among producers.

CONCLUSION
Marketing should be critically considered by industry playersas an important aspect of the
poultry business and lobby. Build the capacity of the farmers to effectively coordinate, monitor
and participate in the market. Facilitate the small holders farmer's access to variable market to
chicken and eggs.

To enhance production of poultry, there's need to create aweness on the importance of the
sectors in securing household food and nutrition security. There's need to, train and facilitate
production of Indigenous chickens (This is the chicken of choice as most become health
conscious), lower production costs will make poultry and poultry producers affordable,
encourage farmers to form cooperatives (This will give farmers bargain power and institutional
strengthening for farmers organizations), address poultry feed supplementing (Not scavenging)
by introducing appropriate feeds ensuring a balanced diet to increase numbers), develop
reliable quality assurance programs for all hatcheries and multiplication farms to cushion faers
against losses, established collectives of marketing poultry products and lastly, popularized the
consumption of poultry products in collaboration with media to disseminate informations this is
due to the misinformation especially on eggs.
