1. Discuss your past academic achievements, including the process and skills
involved in your previous or current degree program!
I was recently nominated in the 2021 Most Outstanding Student List from Faculty of Law
Universitas Indonesia. This honor was the culmination of my academic GPA
achievements, extracurricular works, various international awards, and onsite work
experience, which I have gathered throughout four semesters of my study at Faculty of
Law, Universitas Indonesia.
One of the parameters to fulfill the criteria of Most Outstanding Student is having the skill
to conduct in-depth and independent legal research. However, proficient legal research
cannot be acquired at an instant as it requires tremendous dedication and practice. It is
a learned skill developed through hundreds of revisions and uncountable drafts before I
was able to conduct proper legal research. I acquired this skill throughout my study from
class assignments and also when I was participating in the research process for
numerous competitions such as for United Nations Development Programme Council and
also United Nations Commission on International Trade Law.
In my current undergraduate program, having independent legal research skills would
also greatly help in academic progress, such as collecting resources for legal opinions
and other legal articles. Currently, I hope to hone this skill more in various opportunities
in the future.
2. Please outline your plans to engage with local and international communities
during IISMA program using clear examples!
Firstly, I will be connecting and actively engaging with international student communities
in the Netherland such as Maastricht Erasmus Student Network and European Law
Student Association to further immerse myself in international networking,
communication, and organizational activities. I believe this is also in line with the purpose
of the Indonesian International Student Mobility Award 2021 in building international
connections, experiencing diverse cultures, and preparing myself for the future career.
Secondly, I would like to network with Perhimpunan Pelajar Indonesia Belanda and other
various Indonesia’s youth-organized student communities in during my tenure abroad.
My decision behind this plan is that numerous members of these communities are also
LPDP awardees, where I will have many common goals and common interests, such as
bringing positive insights from our exchange program and incorporating them into
Indonesia later on.
Thirdly, I will also continue engaging and supporting local communities in Indonesia that
are interested in international opportunities such as [insert organisasi]. Through actively
engaging with local communities in Indonesia, I hope to continue exchanging ideas and
share my exciting experiences with many Indonesian students through this community.

3. Discuss a time when you faced a difficult academic challenge or hurdle and how
you navigated through it!
One of the biggest academic challenges or obstacles I experienced was when I
participated in the international academic moot competition. Academic moot or mock trial
is a competition that simulates the situation of a real-world trial in the practice of law.
When I was still in my freshman year, I braved myself to register for this competition
despite knowing the challenges I will have since most of the competitors are Master’s
degree students.
As the youngest team member, I was very overwhelmed at first. This is because there
are heaps of materials that I have to catch up such as fundamentals of international law,
international investment law, and various rules governing arbitration. Despite only
learning the basics of law in class, I forced myself to finish numerous books discussing
advanced matters to not fall behind my peers.
Through the hard work and countless hours I have put in, I was able to stand on my own
feet along with my peers in representing Universitas Indonesia at the Global Rounds of
Foreign Direct Investment 2020. We also became the first Universitas Indonesia Team to
achieve Top 32. It really was an academic challenge I am proud to overcome.
4. How will this program (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka and IISMA Program in
particular) help you achieve immediate goals and how can you contribute back to
this program
As someone who came from one of the most underdeveloped regions in Indonesia, I want
to show that through grit and passion that someone like me can succeed in the impossible
dream of representing Indonesia and participating with international communities.
My personal goal as a law student is to understand the original source of Indonesian law
that was adopted from Dutch law and the current development of international law. I
believe that the opportunity given by Merdeka Kampus Belajar Merdeka and IISMA 2021
Program will bring me one step closer to deepen my understanding of international law
while being supplemented with other various courses in Maastricht.
In terms of giving back to this program, I will be actively engaging and participating in the
communities of IISMA 2021 alumni. This would be similar to AFS Alumni Bina
Antarbudaya groups that will be helping and assisting coordination for the future batches
in this program in any manner possible.
Furthermore, as an education content creator with almost 200.000 views, I hope to
actively promote Merdeka Kampus Belajar Merdeka and IISMA 2021 Program so that
more Indonesian students are aware and able to utilize this fantastic opportunity.
