Vocabulary

Relatives:
a person connected by blood or marriage.

Siblings:
each of two or more children or offspring having one or both
parents in common; a brother or sister.

Next of kin:
A person's next of kin (NOK) is that person's closest living
blood relative or relatives. Some countries, such as the United
States, have a legal definition of "next of kin". In other
countries, such as the United Kingdom, "next of kin" may have
no legal definition and may not necessarily refer to blood
relatives at all.

Kinship:
Those whom are related through birth or blood.

Hereditary:
Biological process responsible for passing on physical traits
from one generation to another.

Ancestral:
Belonging to or inherited from one’s ancestors

Family Tree:
A diagram showing the relationship between people in several
generations of a family.

Household:
A house and its occupants regarded as a unit

Matrifocal:
Based on the mother as the head of the family or household

Patrifocal:
Based on the father as the head of the family or household.

Matriarchal:
A family or society in which the woman is the head

Patriarchal:
A family or society in which the man is the head

Genealogy:
The study of families.
