DANTES 11-AMITY

Padre Faura is a good friend of Dr. Jose Rizal. He is remembering his memories of him on the
roof of the Ateneo Municipal. Months ago, Dr. Jose Rizal came to him in the observatory.
Padre Faura thought that they would talk about the stars that do not collide but instead,
Pepe asked him about the purgatory. Now, he sees Pepe with his eyes crying. He saw the
soldiers with their Mausers raised on Pepe, later did he know Pepe was already dead.

Clearly nervous and scared as for the word shivering even mixed in with cold since of his
location. Padre Faura can’t stop the execution because he doesn’t have the power to do so.
Dr. Jose Rizal is the star that Padre Faura was talking. He is the star that still shimmers even if
it is millions of miles away and even the star itself is dead.

Padre Faura could not do anything to save his friend. Now, everything makes sense to him.
On how and why Pepe asked him about the purgatory instead of the stars because he knew
himself that he was going to die soon. His cheeks are still ruddy from the sudden sun after
the bitter winter in Europe but still went back to his birth country for what? To die just like
that? Because of the injustice and abusive government of the Spaniards, Pepe died. Because
of his will to free us from the colonizers, Pepe died and Padre Faura would have to see his
friend got shoot in his own sight.

But because of his death we all are benefiting on what we called “freedom.” Just like what
Padre Faura said, Pepe will shimmer and be remembered even when the time passes by. Even
his history will be forgotten, his legacy will always stay great. So, let’s all appreciate and
always give importance to what Dr. Jose Rizal have done for the sake us, for the sake of our
country.
