"Reflection Paper on Jose Rizal Movie“

Not all heroes wear capes”, this is a quote which perfectly suits the life of Dr. Jose
Rizal. He showed us in the movie that if you have the will to change something, you can
change that. He is not a typical national hero who has fought many wars but sword,
guns, and blood, instead, he fought against the Spanish government through his pen
and paper. This movie revealed that the combination of a great mind, pen, and paper is
a powerful weapon. One most fruitful periods of Dr. Jose Rizal’s life was barely
witnessed in Dapitan. This is the period when he had been more focused on serving
the people and society. He does civic works, medical practices, promotion of education,
teaching children, and many other things that would improve and develop our society.
One period of his life, he came to know Josephine Bracken. Josephine Bracken
became a true love for Dr. Jose Rizal, and because of their unconditional love to each
other, they wanted to be married but the problem is that no priest wanted to lead their
marriage. But this does not stop them from marrying each other, they exchange vows
before God in their own way. After some time, their love was a fruit and Josephine was
pregnant. Unfortunately, Josephine gave birth to a premature baby who lived only for
three hours. The child was buried in Dapitan, and that boy was named after Jose
Rizal’s father, Francisco.I got mad at Rizal by the time of Josephine’s pregnancy
because it turned out that Rizal is the reason why they lost their baby. When Rizal’s
anger burst because of an accusation that her wife is a spy, her wife had been tortured
mentally and emotionally leading to the miscarriage of their baby. It is really
disappointing that the only direct lineage of Rizal was lost because Rizal’s own did.

If he was just an ordinary person, he probably was already forgotten. But because he
was extraordinary, I believe that he really deserved to be our national hero. So many
people looked up to him, especially the people in Dapitan. They really adore and admire
him; the young ones had the passion to follow everything that he must teach and
instruct. He has established a school in Dapitan which was attended by 16 young boys
from prominent families and those students weren’t charged with matriculation fees,
instead, they were tasked to do community services.Dr. Jose Rizal’s life is like a roller
coaster, he has experienced so many challenges but still managed to finish his ride
with an exclamation point. He fought against the Spaniards with all his heart and even
sacrificed his own life for the betterment of the whole country. Before he was shot
dead in Bagumbayan, the last words that he said were “consummatum est”, which
means that it is finished. By the time that he was shot, it tore the hearts of the Filipino
people. And that event triggered the Filipinos to get our freedom back from the
Spaniards. Because of Dr. Jose Rizal, Filipinos united and fought against the Spaniards
to the end of their colonization. Without his sacrifices, no one would trigger the
eagerness of the Filipinos to get back the freedom that we’ve always wanted. If I would
be rating the movie from 1 being the lowest to 10 being the highest, I would give it a
7/10. The story of the movie is really interesting, but the creation of the movie did not
satisfy my expectations. The acting of the actors and actresses were good but some of
the events were confusing. And while watching the movie, some audiences were not
giving much attention to the movie, which means that it lacks something to catch the
attention of the audience. But overall, I would still recommend you watch the movie
because it is a crucial part of our identity as Filipinos.
