REFLECTION PAPER ABOUT “RIZAL SA DAPITAN” by TIKOY AGUILUZ
The film was all about the life of Rizal in Dapitan. Based on my own perception the whole film
was really great and have good portrayal and executions. I learned more deeper about the
characteristics of Rizal. He is very straightforward and inspiring in many reasons, he didn’t waste time
while he in Dapitan not only because of the place but also for his fellow Filipinos, he did a great level of
commitment for all people. I can say that Rizal live his life to the fullest without any regrets by living the
life the best as he can.
Based on the film, I believe that Jose Rizal is an extraordinary person living an ordinary life,
prove that he is really gifted and intelligent. He practiced medicine and serves people who have vision
problems and became a voluntary teacher to the children as well. Rizal was indeed creative in all ways
he built clinic, dorm, and poultry that he even engaged with farming and created a bamboo water pipe
also. Rizal is deeply committed to his faith and stance, which is why he refused Father Obach's offer to
return to church. At the near end of the movie Rizal in Dapitan he met and courted the stepdaughter of
a patient, named Josephine Bracken. The part of life where he came to know Josephine is the most
romantic. Their love story was example of unconditional love despite of the fact that there was no priest
who was willing to marry them, but they exchange their vows in their own way as a sign of love for each
other. One night, Valenzuela and Rizal discussed the Katipunan's plan, and Rizal refused to accept it
because he did not want a war that could result in the death of his fellow citizens because they were not
prepared for a bloody revolution. Rizal, on the other hand, has made significant contributions to our
independence and will remain in the hearts of all Filipinos. Because when Rizal was in Dapitan, he was
able to illustrate what a hero's life was like. For these reasons, we can’t deny the fact that Rizal was truly
loved by all people in Dapitan. At the end of the film, when Jose Rizal will leave at Dapitan, all of his
students, his parents and family and also other ordinary people together with the band said their last
goodbyes.
After I finished the film, I have a lot of realization, as a youth and learner I realized how important
the education to become a good leader or citizen for the future generation. Jose Rizal was an image of
inspiration in every heart of Filipino to be nationalistic and learn to love in blood their own birth country.
This film has really helped to widen my knowledge about Rizal's character and life as an ordinary man in
Dapitan. I was deeply touched to this film, and I hope that everybody will realize the importance of
continuing to do good things for the betterment of our beloved Philippines.

issues like Rizal’s retraction
unanswered. However, does it
really matter? We know what
Rizal has done, and we know
that he has contributed
greatly to our freedom as a

about his retraction will not
change how I see him
