Lubrication – All driving mechanisms are oiled automatically from three oil reservoirs. - On the right side of the machine, check oil reservoirs weekly. - Use a good grade of mineral oil of 300 seconds S.U.V. at 100° or S.A.E 20 throughout. - During operation, look at the oil sight indicators to make sure the oiling systems are functioning. - A self-closing oiler in the hub of the transverse and vertical adjustment handwheels require oiling every few days. - On the right side, there are four sight glasses. 1) The far left sight glass is a sight indicator for the column oiling system. 2) The lowest sight glass is a gauge for the knee reservoir. 3) Above the knee gauge glass is the sight indicator for the knee oiling system 4) There is a sight gauge on the saddle for the reservoir. - Arbor yokes are oiled manually by means of the push valve at the top of each yoke. Electrical – The electrical equipment should be inspected twice a year. - The contacts of the manually operated and magnetic switches may be cleaned with a rag if necessary - The black substance on the contacts does not harm anything and removing this deposit will merely shorten the life of the contacts. - NEVER use sandpaper or emery instead of a rag - If a rag is not sufficient, use a very fine file. Extra wear prevention – Small steps taken during every use can prevent long term damage. - To prevent the possibility of the table and coolant pump motors running for long periods unnoticed, do not leave the machine with the spindle reversing switch in the Off position. - Do not allow chips to pile high around the work or fixture, or to clog the T-slots and channels of the table. - Keep the bearing faces clear of chips and dirt; this will prevent wear of the bearings that would make the machine hard to manipulate. - The use of compressed air for cleaning work and fixtures is not recommended. It is much better to flush with coolant or, if necessary, to clean with a brush.
