    Perform guided exercise with changing “rolling terrain” to 5% grade 3 miles long; at what level of service
    does the highway facility now operate?
    Then, a freeway section lies on a 3⁄4 mile
    long grade of +4% and a 1⁄2 mile long
    grade of +5%. Find the equivalent grade
    for this combination.

    SAQ 24.B:

    It is proposed to build a 4-lane divided highway with


    11-foot lanes and 8-foot shoulders on the grades
    described above. Interchanges 1 per mile. Ideal free
    flow speed is 70 mph. The expected flow speed is 70
    mph. The expected traffic mix is 6% trucks and 5%
    buses. PHF = 0.75. Determine the DHV daily hourly
    volume at LOS level of service C. E T=3.4 given (from
    Table 9.4, 5% - 1.25 miles, PT=11%.
