SIDECO RE-PURPOSE PROJECT:
R E S TAU R A N T- M U S E U M F U S I O N
SAN ISIDRO, NUEVA ECIJA
The Crispulo Sideco House, also known as the
‘Malacañang of Nueva Ecija” is considered as
the most historical residences in Nueva Ecija
and one of the best houses in the province.
Situated at the corner of P. Carmen and Val-
larta Streets in Poblacion, San Isidro, Nueva
Ecija. It is a residential residential building,
surrounded by the Vasquez, Moreno and
Tinio houses which were prominent families
during that time. The house sits in the middle
of the property. Mango, Cocoa, and Caimito
grow in the backyard while flowery plants
decorate the fence and front of the house.
Before, only a few can pass by these streets
due to limited number of residents. Since this
is a populated area now, many passersby can
see and admire its beauty.
Aside from the historical value of the house,
Architecturally it represents an era lost in
modern day design. Adobe blocks, tiza or
bricks adorn the walls of the ground floor.
two big trunks support the roofing from the
ground, hand chiseled and curved. The stairs
are riddled with elaborately designed balus-
ters. The second floor has flooring with at
least 2 ft x 10 ft wood planks. The windows
are made of capiz, doubled with wooden jal-
ousie for better air circulation. The ceiling has
an opening outside to encourage passive
cooling. Adding insulation to battle the tropi-
cal heat, bamboo poles were placed along the
roofing. The kitchen area has a backdoor and
separate stairs to let its commodities without
the guests noticing it. There is also a well for
water supply then. There are one or two se-
cret doors that may lead to a bunker or tun-
nel towards the riverbank to facilitate easy
escape.
Built in the 19th century by Crispulo
Sideco, its significant historical value
stemmed from it being a known headquar-
ter for the Philippines’ late national he-
roes. This structure was a witness to the
rising change in sovereignty in the country.
With this house’s servitude to the country
and its countrymen, it is only right to fight
to preserve the value of the structure. As
with things that get buried in the past, the
Sideco House might one day be forgotten
and this is what we would like to prevent.
Houses hold stories, more so with this one
which is why we should no let the story
end.
“A Restaurant-Museum Fusion Re-purpose
Project” What do people love more than
stories? They love food. This is the reason
why we hypothesize that this route would
be best for the Sideco House. This pre-
tense will attract more visitors to the area
while enriching them with culture. The
Restaurant will be authentic Filipino cui-
sine that will perfectly match the ambience
that the house exudes. The target market
for this project is people of all ages and
backgrounds. Students, teachers, people of
age, children, and teenagers with running
curiosities, all are welcome. This project
aims to broaden the masses’ interest in
the heritage structure and the culture be-
hind the Municipality of San Isidro.
IMPLEMENTATION PLAN
Currently, our team have conducted researches relation to
the Sideco House. Due to the lack of raw information about
the house in the internet, we opted to find first –hand infor-
mation about the structure from interviewing the local. Due
to the limitations brought about the pandemic, we only
found a few residences that were wiling enough to give us
their time. They were the ones who provided us with demo-
graphic information we needed to assess what kind of struc-
ture can the house be re-purposed into. In the end we went
with the restaurant-museum fusion.
Funding for this project will come from grants, solicitations,
donations, and crowd-sourcing. We would also yield help
from the local government of the municipality of San-Isidro.
With the community value of the house, we believe that
many people would be encouraged to invest in the project.
The critical part of negotiation for this project is the fact the
it is a private property owned by the three children of the
late Mr. Leo Guingon along with getting the minucipal ap-
proval to handle heritage sites.

thetic with changes that would fit the function of being a
restaurant/museum.
