Audience Response Prompts:

 Use the following questions/prompts to help you write a response to 8 of the

persuasive speech topics presented in class.

 You may write your responses in about 150-200 words, using the Audience Response
Template (to be compiled and submitted in your Portfolio).

 Do not write responses that are longer than 1 page (¾ to 1 page would be enough).

 You may respond together as a pair (write all 8 of the responses together) or divide
the responses between both partners (write 4 responses each).

 Responses should be based on the speech content (points, examples etc.) and NOT on
the presenters’ delivery (style/tone/language/effectiveness) of the presentation.

AUDIENce

 Introduction: (first few sentences) – What was the

topic about?
 Claim – What is the persuasive claim?
 Your opinion – Do you agree/disagree with the
claim?
 Elaboration – Explain why you agree or disagree.
 Justifications – Why were you persuaded/not
persuaded? (give reasons)
 Points of interest – What did you find
interesting/noteworthy about the content of the
presentation? (main points/examples/scenarios?)
 New input – Did you learn anything new from the
presentation?
 Comments – Do you have any additional
insights/views?
 Concluding remarks – What do you think of the
issue, overall?
