Aim : Calculating Area of Squares using Geometric Series


& Practice Examples of Power series.

1 The figure shows the first 7 of sequence of squares.


The outermost square has an area of 4 sq. m. Each of the other squares is obtain by
joining the mid points of the sides of the squares in the infinite sequence.

Find the sum of the Areas of all the squares in the infinite sequence.
2 Connect the mid points of the sides of an Equilateral Triangle to form 4 smaller
equilateral triangles. Leave the middle small triangle blank, but for each of the other
three small triangles, draw lines connecting the mid points of the sides to create 4 tiny
triangles. Again leave each middle tiny triangle blank and draw the lines to divide the
others into 4 parts.

Find the infinite series for the total area left blank if this process is continued
indefinitely.
