Background of the study

Introduction

The development of modern day technology, previous application that runs only in
desktop computing can now be applied in mobile through applications compatible
enabling any devices such as laptops, digital tablet with Wi-Fi capabilities or even the use
of smartphones with Internet access. According to the article entitled Smart Phone User
by numbers, there are 1 billion smartphone users in the world and most individual aging
is 16-29 years old have smartphone and desktop or laptop.

This project aims to create a mobile based student handbook application for LIS student

that provides more convenience and paperless transaction without cost to the both student
and university, as stated by Ryan Ryan Lytle (2012), the use of mobile and Web
applications can give students a new perspective on schools. The Lubang Integrated
School has embraced information technology improvements in recent years, including
automation of its library system, enrollment system, biometrics for personnel log-ins and
log-outs, and a distinctive voting mechanism for its Supreme Student Council. The
delivery of the student handbook to the school's first-year students, a procedure done
each year after enrollment to make sure the new students are aware of the crucial details
about the institution.

However, the existing problem with the current method is that the handbook is a manual
book and distributed to only limited number of students. While the presented problem
still exists, numerous students lack the required knowledge and awareness of school rules
and regulation resulting to the obstruction of it unconsciously.

Android Based Student Handbook is a mobile handbook which is invented as a

guidelines for you to follow. This project will also be benefited to the university because
the university will not spend money for the production of this student handbook instead it
will be free and downloadable online. This Handbook provide you with a wealth of
information. Actual classroom activities as well as some easy evaluation techniques, have
also been suggested for you to try out. In this way, the handbook closely links theory and
practice. To facilitate your acquisition of new knowledge and skills, wide margins have
been provided where you may write information. Through this project anyone may have
this handbook, if you have android or smartphones. School guidelines wouldn’t forget by
the students .
