ASSIGNMENT IN BIOLOGY
GRADE 12 STEM B JANUARY 10 2023

1.If would be given a chance to undergo cosmetics plastic surgery for free I will not accept it. I have two
reasons why. First I’m afraid of what will happen after, second one is I’m perfectly fine with the looks
that I have right now I’m proud of my flaws I’m not ashamed of it because that’s what God gave me in
the first place and I’m thankful to that. Nevertheless Plastic surgery is a personal decision and whether
or not someone chooses to undergo it is up to them. It can be used to improve one’s appearance, boost
self-esteem, and even correct certain physical abnormalities. However, it’s important for an individual to
carefully weigh the risks and benefits of any procedure and to make sure that the decision is based on
their own well-being rather than societal pressure. It is also important to note that the aesthetic results
of plastic surgery are not always predictable, and there is the possibility of complications or
dissatisfaction with the results.

Ultimately, whether or not one chooses to undergo plastic surgery is a very personal decision that
should be based on one’s individual needs and goals. If you are considering plastic surgery, it is
important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional to understand the risks, benefits and the
procedure options, and to make sure that you’re making a decision that’s best for you.

2.If both cilia and flagella are not able to function, it would have a significant impact on the cell.
Hand flagella are specialized structures that protrude from the cell surface and are used for movement.
Cilia are typically shorter and more numerous than flagella, and they are used for a variety of functions
such as moving fluids over the cell surface, moving the cell itself, or facilitating cell-to-cell
communication.

If cilia are not able to function, it could lead to a number of problems depending on the type of cell and
the specific function of the cilia. For example, in respiratory epithelial cells, cilia help to move mucus and
debris out of the airways. Without functional cilia, this process would be impaired, which could lead to
recurrent infections and inflammation. Similarly, if flagella are not able to function, it would also have a
significant impact on the cell, it would impeded the ability of the cell to move, especially if the cell is a
type of organism that relies on flagella for motility like sperm cells. In addition, some cells use cilia and
flagella in signaling pathways, such as chemotaxis, which allow the cells to detect and respond to
chemical signals in the environment. Without functional cilia and flagella, these signaling pathways
would be disrupted, which could have severe consequences for the survival and growth of the organism.

Overall, functional cilia and flagella are important for various cellular processes, and if they are not able
to function, it would greatly impede the cell’s ability to survive and carry out normal processes, could
lead to serious health problems.
