I. Objectives
At the end of lesson, the students are expected to:
a) Describe a plant cell and animal cell.
b) Identify differences between plant and animal cells
c) Create a Venn diagram comparing the two types of cells
C. Materials:
● Powerpoint
● Access to video lesson “The Difference Between Plant and Animal Cells”,
● Jigsaw puzzle of plant and animal cell (for motivation)
III. Procedure
1. Prayer
Okay class before we start our lesson please Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy
stand and let us pray. Yumi, please lead the prayer. name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it
is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass
against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us
from evil. Hail Mary, full of grace.
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
“Checking of Attendance by row (The Students will do.)
Row 1 are there absentees? How about Row
2, Row 3, Row 4 and Row 5:
Very Good! And for that, kindly give (The Students will respond.)
yourselves a “Good Job clap”
4. Checking of Assignment
Please bring out your assignment and (The Students will do.)
pass it forward.
Class, what topic did we take up last Our lesson yesterday is all about “Cell Structure and
meeting? Function.”
Alright!
Verygood! Next?
Student2: Cell membrane
Correct!
B. Motivation
Are you ready class? Then let us begin. Yes! We are ready!
D. Presentation/ Discussion
Figure 16.7
a. Plant cells and animal cells differ greatly in
size and shape..
b. Plant cells are surrounded by an outer
protective cell wall which is absent in animal
cells. The cell wall is relatively rigid, while the
cell membrane is elastic. The rigidity of the cell
wall permits plants cells to maintain their
shape.
c. Vacuoles in animal cells are small and vary in
their uses: some are for storage food or water,
others are for excretion of waste materials. In
plant cells, the initial many small vacuoles
combine to form bigger vacuoles. Eventually,
the mature plant cells may have but a single
large centrally located vacuole with the
cytoplasm confined at their sides. The large
plant vacuoles function for intracellular
digestion, space filling, and control of cell
turgor.
d. The rounded, oval or irregularly shaped bodies
called plastids are absent in animal cells. The
most well known plastids in plant cells. The
most well known plastids in plants are the
green pigmented or chlorophyll-bearing
chloroplasts. Another kind of plastid called
chromoplastid contains two types of
pigments: carotenes xanthophylls (bright
yellow and brown colors).
e. Located in the cytoplasm just outside the
nucleus is the centrosome, which plays an
important role in animal cell division.
